Wonderful, wonderful book! I enjoyed this immensely. The author writes beautifully and the plot of her novel flows and keeps the reader guessing to the end. She uses her narrative in both the first and third person which gives the book a rich depth. The characters in the novel also feature in her earlier work, Mocha, Moonlight and Murder which I would also recommend. However, you could probably read this book in its own right without referring to the previous story. However, I would as it enables the reader to catch up with the characters and also gives an added dimension to the later work.
This book has everything; it is by turns a murder mystery, thriller, love story with tones of humour and is fast paced and the story never waives. You really get drawn in to the plot and the characters are so believeable. I would really recommend and cannot wait for the next story. Ms Kempher is definitely an author to watch out for!
I especially enjoyed the beginning of this book where the first murder is described from a variety of perspectives and characters point of view. This was something I had not read before and I it really worked to engage the reader. At times there were aspects of this book that reminded me of Agatha Christie even to the fact that there was a reveal at the end although not as in-depth as some of Christie's characters. I have to be honest and say that I had my suspicions about one of the murderers early on in the book although this did not spoilt the read at all. I have to say there is a huge coincident in the book when two of the characters meet up again which I found to be a little hard to believe. Putting this aside this did not spoil the story at all.
This was a good fast read with an engaging story which has left me wanting to read the first in the series now. Will definitely be looking out for more from this author.
Katherine and Scott from Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder are also in this book, but you do not have to read the first book before reading this book. (but it is equally entertaining). Scott's family is on the ship for a wedding. There are two elderly ladies (NeNe and GaGa) that were so much fun. Detective Jack Haney works the cruise ship as Head of Security for his friend that has business to take care of, and that's when the craziness begins. There is murder that takes place, and Jack has his hands full trying to solve before the ship docks.
This book would be a Great book to add to any collection for yourself, or a gift for your friends.
