…James and Nordby have enlisted the hemisphere's leading experts in his or her individual field of expertise to explain and educate the reader to the topic at hand … I found the book to be concise, very informative, and easy to understand … For the college/university student, this book has the potential to be ranked as the 'must have' textbook … As a former crime scene investigator and current adjunct instructor, I believe this book to be a noteworthy addition to any private or agency library. Accordingly, it could easily fulfill the curriculum mandate for a general forensic science class at either the freshman or second-year post-secondary school level … the third edition of Forensic Science: An Introduction to Scientific and Investigative Techniques is not only a premiere reference textbook, but with its palatable price tag, this reference manual makes for a worthwhile academic investment either in or out of the classroom.
―Craig C. Moore, Constable, Niagara Regional Police Service, Ontario, Canada, Canadian Society of Forensic Science Journal, Vol. 43 No. 1, March 2010
A comprehensive overview of forensic science in its broadest sense, this standard-setting bestseller reaches beyond the scope of other texts that concentrate on criminalistics. It features an extensive range of fundamental topics with the technical detail necessary to understand the breadth of the forensic sciences. Changes in this edition include a new foreword by James Starrs, a new chapter on forensic photography, completely rewritten chapters on computer forensics and DNA analysis, expanded information on crime scenes and forensic pathology, and a wealth of new ancilliary material for instructors including testbank questions and additional photographs for lectures provided on CD. A companion lab book is available.See all Product description

Having recently gone back to university in my 30's, my husband bought me this book - it is one of our set texts. It's a very good broad based book, giving plenty of information on many aspects of Forensic science, and still manages to be written in ENGLISH rather than technobabble. Plenty of good pertinent pictures and diagrams and good well structured Questions; to actually get you thinking about the subject. Having seen some other set texts, this one is well above average for it's subject matter.

As this book says, it's an introduction on "scientific and investigative techniques" but don't be fooled, the detail is immense and the book is superbly laid out. Clear diagrams, photos and graphs are well placed to help the reader further understand what they are taking in. The text it's self is easy to follow and friendly to read and the concepts are well explained. What I especially like about this book are the questions at the end of each section (nothing formidable) and the case studies and examples that further help to emphasize the points being put across. Once I complete my 'A' levels I'm planning to achieve a PHD in Forensic Science and this book has really helped my understanding in the world of forensics immensely.
