Format: Hardcover
An excellent text that starts from the very basics and goes through the latest methods. Also, because it avoids linear algebra where it can it is very readable by the non-mathematicians. However, mathematically strong readers should find it very useful since it states in plain English the intuition behind each method. Note, that I had been puzzled by the first review of this text especially about the Greek alphabet which although it would have been no problem still was misleading about the level of difficulty. A GREAT TEXT AND A MUST FOR INITIATION IN FORECASTING and even contains basic resources for the first time student of forecasting. I think no more than a standard introductory course in statistics is needed to go through the material.

This book is a spectacular overview of forecasting techniques and probably the best possible introduction book. The plain language is very easy to understand, and further readings have been provided tediously. I agree that you have to have some understanding of reading equations, but you don't have to be a mathematician in order to understand this book. If you feel that you might not be competent enough, start from the first chapter and advance. The author begins from the very basic ideas and adds on in each reading, where after finishing the book I felt that it prepared me for more advanced scientific journals.

Even though I found the examples very informative, if you're looking for a McGraw-Hill type of university textbook that provides step-by-step examples in every single topic, this book may not be right for you.

This is a great book to start you off in forecasting. Spyros Makridakis proves again that he can present his excellent ideas in a simple way, making them intelligible for students of different levels (the only prerequisite is your knowledge of simple math). So, whether you new in forecasting or you want to brush up your knowledge -- this book is an ultimate choice.

This is an excellent book on applied time series methods at a basic level.
All methods used are in time domain. They include straightforward regression, exponential smoothing, ARIMA models and dynamic regression models popular in economics. The focus is on finding a suitable description of a time series and interpreting results.
There is a chapter on advanced methods which is a bit superfluous. The main gap in the text is spectral analysis is not covered. However, this means that the mathematics and statistics involved is relatively easy. This book is an ideal introductory text suited to business, economics and applied science students.

The concepts I was already familiar with are covered very well, and I find this book a helpful reminder. On less-familiar concepts I have found the text fairly clear. That being said, any clarity lost in the text is immediately rectified in worked-through example tables and figures.

My opinion - just right for statisticians/analysts of all levels of ability and interest!

This book contains everything what I need and want about forecasting. I'm from Poland, so one problem could be the language, but NO. It is written with very easy, but no simple way. There are many examples for every single equation and forcasting method. Authors show some very difficult methods and they explain they in easy way. I highly recommend this book.
