Having read the Gilded Flower series - which I loved, I was very excited to read this story about the Cruz sister, Rosa - and get to see more of Lily and Dahlia in particular. Remembering how my emotions rose and fell during those books, I made sure I had a tissue to hand!
It took just a few minutes to get back into the world of these fabulous characters, based mainly in Miami. It was certainly a lot more than a friends to lovers story - although the romance was both loving and as chemistry laden as could be. The cooking scenes were delicious, and the whole opening a new business side of things was interesting - with fun bits like the PR session. I loved the family dynamics - and Rosa made some discoveries of her own about her feelings for her mother as she started to understand the kind of parenting that Eliseo had experienced. I love stories which give characters such insights into themselves via the revelations of others. As the drama increases, it is pretty tense for a while, but thankfully the reader's trust in Ms Winslow is not misplaced. The story as a whole is very satisfying.

I do love a book that has strong willed woman that knows what she wants.
Rosa is one of these women, I love her strength and determination. She comes from a wealthy family, she wants to have her own restaurant but wants to do this by herself, on her own merits. She learnt a lot from her father before he died and I think it makes her more determined to make a success of it. Rosa isn't interested in love, settling down and having children, she wants her restaurant!
Eliseo.... Mmmmmmm, I just love a man that can cook and knows his way around the kitchen. He is like part of the family to Rosa's family and when he and Rosa were younger they were inseparable. As time went on things happened and Eliseo moved away and started a life for himself in New york, he trained and became an excellent chef. He feels he's going no where and others are taking credit for his efforts so when a possible job opportunity arises at Rosa's restaurant he decides go for it. She doesn't make it easy for him just because he's like part of the family, she makes him show her what he can cook. Rosa loves food and Eliseo impresses her that much she offers him the job!!
And so it begins... The attraction between the two of them is undeniable, I was frustrated at times at Rosa's stubbornness, I understand she just wants her business to be a huge success and can't afford for anything to go wrong! Of course it doesn't run smoothly and there are many problems ahead for them especially when Eliseo's past decides to pay a visit!
I won't say anymore as I don't want to give anything away but I really enjoyed it, there was some gripping moments. I love the characters, I'd very much like to read Eddie's story ( he is Eliseo's friend from New York). I bet he's got a right story to tell!
I read this on behalf of A Book Lovers Emporium Book Blog.

Rosa, owner of Mama Linda’s Latin Food Empire, is set to make her mark in the world without her family help or name. She seeks out family friend, Elieso Perez a chef who wants to leave his mark on the world through the kitchen, to help her in her new upscale restaurant in Miami. Being Cuban, many things are expected of Rosa like children and marriage, but her dream is to just be successful with her restaurant. But you know what they say, love hits when you least expect it. Feelings between Rosa and Elieso hit fast and hard but both are trying to keep things very simple for buiness purposes. These two cooking in the kitchen, building this business together, connecting on similar interests make this book truly an amazing read. Add in some drama, you will be hooked, just like I was.
Vivian Winslow again takes us on an amazing journey with amazing characters, amazing story line, and the secrets that Rosa handles wonderfully. You see two characters grow, love, and make a beautiful story unfold before your eyes. The intimacy and chemistry Rosa and Elieso have will knock your socks off, even with some of the "racy" words. I know longer cringe at them, they made the scenes POP! The details of the amazing drinks and food, will leave your mouth watering. The writing, the research put into this book shows just what an amazing author Winslow truly is. Elieso does have a past, I sure hope this leads to more stories in an amazing series that I will be very interested in reading. Vivian Winslow poured her heart out in an amazing, hot, angst, read that will draw in any romance or new adult genre readers and have them begging for more. BRAVO Vivian Winslow on a job very very well done!
This book plays out like a telenova. There is quite a bit of drama and angst. We have two very passionate characters who begin to closely work together. Anyone can see what will happen in this situation. But it is more because of their history and the ways that their families are intertwined, in ways the main female character Rosa did not even realize. Rosa and Eliseo are two people who are passionate about what they do and it expands into every single facet of their lives. As I mentioned before, this book is categorized as NA but in my opinion, it is far too sexy for that. There is quite a bit more explicit sex than I was anticipating. This book was a cross between the first in the series and Vivian’s Gilded Flower series when it comes to the romance. If you have read Vivian’s other stories, you will see many familiar faces. I do enjoy seeing the happily ever afters of the characters. This book expands their stories and I enjoyed seeing them having babies and living their lives full of happiness and family.
Vivian gives the reader a LOT to digest in this book. There is never a dull moment. There is drama, angst, passion, good food, family, and choice. Forbidden Rose is a friends to lovers story that pushes past initial moment of passion, giving the characters more depth and allowing them to find stability and confidence in who they are what they have found together.
Rosa is in the process of opening her own restaurant in Miami and is having difficulty hiring a chef. She comes from a tightknit Cuban family and there are a lot of cultural references in the story, which I loved.
Enter Eliseo Perez, recommended to Rosa by her brother. Eliseo and Rosa grew up together, but haven’t seen each other in over a decade. Eliseo is unsure if he wants to leave New York for Miami. He’s running from a past he’d rather forget, but he makes the move.
Professional and personal boundaries between Rosa and Eliseo are crossed. The sex scenes are hot and steamy. Sometimes, I felt they were a little too many, and I would have preferred less. At times, it felt like the plot was stitched together by sex, but I digress.
There were parts where I felt bogged down with the details and found myself skimming. Then, strangely, there were parts which could have used more explanation, but it was not forthcoming. All in all, this is a quick read with a bit of suspense and hotness thrown into the mix.
The chemistry between Rosa and Eliseo is super hot and also very sweet and caring. You can tell they have deep feelings for one another and this heightens their intimacy quite a bit. I swear since I mentioned to this author that her usage of a certain word makes me blush yet cringe she now uses it more !! I laugh now because what was always a dirty demeaning word has now become a fave of mine when I am reading her stories !! Thank you Vivian for the appreciation of the C word LOL !!
I was impressed with how Rosa handled Eliseo's past and I was also excited for the other stories building in the background. Not sure how many stories we will get out of this series but I know I am not ready to let go of any of these characters any time soon.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way how this author writes, I will catch up with the following books of Ms Winslow, for sure. This book grabbed my attention from the very first page.
Rosa and Eliseo started as best-friend as kid, were inseparable back then. Later their paths separated and they met after several years, in present days. The chemistry is there between them, from the first moment, as they meet after all these years, but both of them are trying to act like a professional. Only stay in a business relation.
Rosa fought her feelings for Flaco. She always stayed away from deep feelings in her relationships. Never allowed to sink too much by her emotions. Less emotion, less pain.
Rosa is a strong woman, who knows what she wants and try to find her own path in the business life. Despite the fact her mother is not too happy of her plans, though support her. Family is always first for her, but she try to stay independent, following her dreams. She is a dutifully daugther at home and a wild child everywhere else". Rosa has a nice life with her own dreams. She wants to come them through.
Eliseo is a talented chef who has earned a name for himself in New York. He has a sad past, has been running away from it all his life. The past is still haunted by what he done and not proud of it, but it is part of his life, can not change this. Cooking is a passion and of course women. He really have a womanizing charm! Good looking, tattooed Cuban Adonis and a fantastic dancer! He needs a fresh start, his dream is an own place, he'd always wanted his own kitchen.
Let's talk about sex. This books was on fire. Full of passion. Do not be shy, those scenes are very steamy and intense.
Not sex is the only passion. Theres are good foods, big meals, beautiful places in Miami, a nice Cuban family, real love and big dreams. Cubans are in strong bonds between families and friends. It was sensual, a goody story enveloped in heady romance. The whole book is passionate about food, family, life, love. A real hedonist.
I loved the characters, each of the was unique. A beautiful love story. I liked that the story was slow-building and the fears has not been disappered by the first touch. They have to figure out how they work together and love each other at the same time.
The story is in the present days but also covers many years in the past to understand what and why. Find out how they got out from Little Havana to the Miami first-class, wealthy, luxurious life.
Miami, mouth-watering food, romance, family and love. That kind of love, what you're chasing in your life. But everything is in place when it's time.
I highly recommend it! It is a really good erotic-romance book and so much more. You can read it as standalone, despite it is the second part of the Wildflowers series.
Ms. Winslow thanks for the mention of Tokaji in your story. I am from Hungary and this kind of wine is from my country.
