Shane was insanely hot especially being the forbidden teacher but he didn't really have much substance to him. The book was told completely in Isabella's POV and while that was okay I would have preferred to have at least a little more insight into Shane's mind and what he was thinking and feeling. All we get are Isabella's thoughts, reactions, and feelings. We get very little insight into Shane unless it's during one of their sexy times which make up pretty much the whole book in my opinion. I think Shane was sweet but he played a minor role in Isabella's story and her descriptions of him fell a little flat to me.
While I thought this was book was enjoyable, I felt like it was a whole lot of sexy times with very little dialogue and substance to it. The sexual chemistry between Isabella and Shane was completely off the charts but the relationship development didn't really go much further from there in my eyes. It was an insta-love type of relationship and I am not the biggest fan.
On the other hand, I loved Isabella's interactions with her friends, The Firework Girls, and I felt like they were a bunch of fun relatable college girls which is why I will probably read the other books in this series at some point.
This book is based around Isabella, last year at University, grade A student, mega rich parents that she does not want people to like her for, so quite down to earth and studious. She ends up taking an extra class for her credits and this is where she meets red hot sexy young Professor Shane, and their attraction to each other is instant.
This is a typical Professor/student based story but with a good storyline and plot twists to go with it. They really do try and fight their attraction for the first 30% of the book but then of course the inevitable happens, but their chemistry when it does is off the chart. Hawt!!
Its an easy story to read and you can guest what is going to happen along the way, but the characters are really well written and you just want to keep reading. There was nothing boring about this book or its plot, more than enough twists in the plot to keep you guessing and hanging on.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend this for reading.

J.L.’s sense of humor comes to the fore in her firsts paragraphs- ‘So here, at Hartman College, I’m Isabella. Just... Isabella. Call me a dork, but it’s almost like having a secret identity. It’s even more thrilling than being surrounded by a bunch of college guys and more alcohol than I’ve ever seen in one place at one time. Yeah, I’m totally enjoying the secret identity thing….My grandfather was Italian and my grandmother was Greek; my caramel-colored skin and dark eyes reflect my heritage. When I was very small, I felt a little out of place. My family’s excessive wealth didn’t help. Even after I matured and grew into what I know the guys consider a tall, Italian beauty, I still sometimes feel a little self-conscious in my own body.’
So we enter the world of Isabella Procopio Caivano Nikas Maddox, her college years, her coming of age and her escapades with her Firework Girls. And as J.L. summarizes her college foray, ‘Don’t Pet the Teacher. They call us the Firework Girls. I’m Isabella. My comfort zone consists of a bank of test tubes and a Bunsen burner. But having to take a philosophy class to graduate from college—well, that’s causing a different kind of burn altogether. I mean, the hottest professor at Hartman is looking right at me. Can you blame me for looking back?’
Playful fun mixed with steamy erotica (though it does take a while to get there) make this a quick evening read and that is just one of the reasons this author will catch on. Grady Harp, April 16
Professor Shane had lit the fire of one college future grad and they have no way of slowing down the burn going on in this test tube. That was until someone from the past sticks there nose in where it had no business being.
Single person POV can leave a lot left to be said and seen. So with that said I was only getting one side of events and was wanting more. For this to be the first book of the series I will say that it got me started. I want to see where it goes from here. "
Forbidden Heat is Isabella's story and is about the forbidden love she finds with one of her professors. Shane is handsome and they have great chemistry. He's only a few years older than Isabella so them being together is easy to see. Both Isabella and Shane are good characters and you can't help but hope they get their happy ending.
The other characters are likable as well so I'll probably continue with the series to see the other girls's story. The one I'm looking most forward to is Sam's and Jack's.
