Easy relaxing read. Loved the food descriptions and escapism of the cookery school plot. Thought the name Luca Amore was abit cheesy but easily forgivable. Very strong first half getting to know the characters then felt it was going a bit bonkers after that and felt disappointed but it redeemed itself and overall was quite inspiring that there is life after 35. Two more of her books on order to lift my mood during the Autumn nights.

Just wonderful! It has made me love Italy even more than I already did. It has made me want to visit Sicily, try the food, to see the scenery so beautifully described in the book. The recipes included in the back of the book is a wonderful touch, and I may even try a couple! I loved the idea of the cooking school, and the fact it's in the family home.

Brilliantly written, beautiful characters, and wonderful settings!

I don't usually read novels, yet, found the title intriguing. As i settled down to read, i first noticed how Pellegrino had introduced the characters along with the activities of the school. It was as if you, the reader, were personally meeting each student as the course and the book unfolded. There was the usual holiday romances. Yet, with each there was a different outcome and a different perspective.

Pellegrino writes with great insight into women, life and food. If you want to be entertained on holiday and just read it casually, then this is a book for you. If you want to reflect on what is being written about, then too, this is a book for you. I think mostly, you'll enjoy the book more if you like food and cooking.

Another thing, it's not that easy to put down :)

The front cover of this book alone had me smiling from ear to ear. I absolutely love everything to do with Lemons! Myself and Lucy have loved them since we were in highchairs, where we would sit sucking on them without so much as a flinch! They take us back to our childhood trips to Italy and us squealing with excitement at the size of the Sorrento Lemons. So yes, simply put they just make me happy! I have read a few of Nicky Pellegrino's books, some of which you can find if you scroll down this page a little bit and I absolutely love that she bases them all in various parts of Italy. This book, "The Food of Love Cookery school" is based in Sicily. I couldn't resist it, as I have been dreaming of going on an Italian cookery holiday for the longest time and believe me this book did nothing but reaffirm that dream. The food, oh the food. Nicky Pellegrino definitely knows how to describe delicious, mouth watering treats that have you dreaming of fresh pasta, the most delectable chocolate and fresh, ice cold Limoncello. Luca Amore, the owner of the cookery school in this book was such a lovely character to me. His passion for his cooking and doing things his Nonna's way, so he can pass on her recipes and love of food, is something I can relate to with my own Grandparents so I loved that right away. Even with his not so pleasant past, he comes across as a very simple guy, who know what he loves and goes with it. In contrast to Luca, you have the four cookery students who bring more modern day, big city, busy life troubles with them to the peaceful Island of Sicily. They soon discover of course that "You eat to live, not live to eat." in Italy and that life can be thoroughly enjoyed at a slower pace with the same rewards and satisfaction.Read more ›

My wife enjoys any books based on Italy and I chose this one for her. She informs me that it is one of the best ones she has read recently because it is light hearted yea informative. So much so that she has difficulty in putting it down and is impatient to see how it ends.

I seem to have been reading a lot of books with unlikeable characters lately and I was in desperate need of something light and pleasant. This book hit the spot perfectly. It's the story of four different women who come to a week long cooking school in Sicily. We are told early on that "one is hiding a secret, another is hoping to find love again, one is desperate to escape her life ands one has already managed it." Over the course of the week the four women become friends, fall in love with Sicily and plan changes in their own lives.

Nicky Pellegrino lives in New Zealand but her father was Italian and she writes beautifully about Italian life and food. This is the first one that's been set in Sicily and was inspired by an actual holiday that she had. The sense of warmth and history is palpable and the descriptions of the food are mouth watering.

The premise behind the book is not terribly original - I was reminded of books like Heartbreak Hotel and A Week in Winter - but it's well told and makes a pleasant, undemanding, enjoyable read. After reading it I felt refreshed, like I really had been away! The four central characters are interesting and rounded with the exception perhaps of Poppy, who's sweet to the point of dull and just seems kind of...wet. Even her decision to leave her husband (before the book began) seems to have been made without any violent emotion.

I thought this was one of the best books that Nicky Pellegrino has written and I really enjoyed it.
