About the Author
Bulgarian-born Silvena Johan Lauta (also known as Silvena Rowe) is an expert in the cuisines of Eastern and Central Europe. Her passion for food stems from her early experience running a family restaurant in Bulgaria, as well as working in a restaurant in the old USSR. She is the culinary brains behind The Baltic restaurant in London. She has worked as a recipe consultant for Marks & Spencer and was recently the food consultant on David Cronenberg's feature film, Eastern Promises. She appears regularly on television and has written for many newspapers and magazines. Silvena has written a number of other books, including Purple Citrus and Sweet Perfume (Hutchinson), Feasts: Food for Sharing From Eastern Europe (Mitchell Beazley), and The Food and Cooking of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (Aquamarine).

This book not only has great recipes and pictures, it also gives a short description of where the food originated, some history and the US available ingredients.
It has some very yummy looking recipes, and I can't wait to try them out.
Like everything in Romanian cuisine, don't expect these to be 15 minutes meals. But delicious, no question.
It even has a recipe for cozonac, so it's perfect for the holidays.
Great looking little book, with lots of interesting ideas, facts, a bit of history, great recipes and beautiful pictures.
My grandchildren have also been to Bulgaria and were so excited to see the recipes of foods they ate while there. It is very well done, and I can't wait to have a Bulgarian dinner with friends.
