The two piece handle came in the same box as the mower itself and needed minimal assembly. It only took a minute to get up and running.
Having tried it out this afternoon we find it's much easier to operate than our old one, even minus a basket to collect the cuttings. Our lumpy turf didn't pose any bother to it either, although we did add all the spacers to give it a decent cut. Plus, the lead's pretty long too so we didn't need an extension lead this time!
We might not have a posh lawn but we didn't want to make an expensive mistake. After reading differing reviews for many (many) mowers, we are happy with our decision to buy this one.
Upon delivery, attaching the handle, and adjusting the cutting height was easy, the instructions are simple to understand.
It made very quick work of my medium sized lawn, and better still was unbelievably easy to use and a lightweight after the more heavy mower. The finished lawn looked really good, and my back (for the first time in years) after cutting the lawn felt great!
I preferred to get a flymo without the grass box, I had two petrol driven flymo's many years ago, and you get a superior lawn if you mulch the cuttings in. I tried it out on some rough pasture, and found two blade spacers did a good job. When the grass is dampish you do get a build up under the apron, so carry a wooden scraper around with you and inspect and clean if you need to - DON'T FORGET TO PULL THE PLUG OUT FIRST.
In conclusion using this was reminiscent of the old days, it has a metal blade (better than cheap plastic) has a decent length of cord, made a good cut, and the price on Amazon will be hard to beat. Highly recommended to compliment your main rotary mower.
Cons: Nowhere to coil the cable, cable quite short, hard to cut edge of a lawn that drops down to a flower bed as the machine looses hover - the solution is to tip it sideways a bit and walk backwards dragging it.
Otherwise seems like a very neat bit of gardening kit. Yes it doesn't pick up the grass but you wouldn't buy a hover if you wanted that. From reading reviews it seems that the flymos that pick up are heavier and don't do it very well so I am happy to stick to the simple and very light original.
Perhaps the machine ought to be asssembled in China - then at least the serial number label would be fitted straight and not just stuck on lop-sided.
