About the Author

Tessa specialises in food and drink research in the chilled aisles of major supermarkets, and in high street food chains, watching and talking to customers as they are about to buy. Tessa's clients include established brands like innocent drinks, Rude Health, Yorkshire Provender, Firefly Tonics, MOMA! Foods, Daylesford, Leon Restaurants, Itsu, and newer businesses like Collective Dairy, Peters Yard Crispbreads, Souplogie, and Jimmys Iced Coffee. She helps food brands to adjust their customer offer, sizing, branding, and pack messages, so they can attract MAXIMUM attention and sales from shoppers in the super-competitive supermarket shelves. She is the author of the best-selling Packed: The Food Entrepreneur’s Guide – How To Get Noticed and How To Get Bought, available on Amazon and Kindle. Tessa speaks on branding at UK entrepreneur events, including The Guardian Masterclasses and Enterprise Nation's Food Exchange, and Festival of Female Entrepreneurs (in Bristol in October 2015). Her writing on getting your food branding and postponing right can be found on Medium.com. Tessa consults with food start-ups on branding options; her 60 minute consultation option can be viewed at www.tessastuart.com

I was honestly surprised to find out that this kind of book existed. It is exactly the point I am at right now with my food business, and I had no idea who to turn to for advice. I came across Tessa's book on Twitter, and thought I will give it a go. It is packed with lots and lots of useful, clever tricks, and I read the whole thing in a matter of days, highlighting things which I would implement along the way. The tip about not contacting buyers was simple but on the money, I had been wondering why I often didn't get a response, and noticed I would write emails on a Sunday/ Monday, and get no reply. I can highly recommend Flying Off The Shelves, and also Tessa's other book Packed- The Food Entrepreneurs Guide. Definitely 5 stars!

Another absolutely brilliant book from Tessa. I have worked in FMCG companies for past 11 years and I am just leaving to set up my own drinks business and this book has given invaluable and practical advice. Make sure you read both this and her second book which focuses on the importance of packaging. Fingers crossed Tessa writes a third book.....keep them coming!!

This book is 'packed' full of valuable information which I am finding very useful to reference whilst building my own food-startup. The real world context used with brand names you should have heard about really helps bring perspective and realism when selling your brand and its products. It has been written in a concise to-the-point way, additive bites of information like a digestive.

This book was incredibly easy to read. In fact it was the book equivalent of a great conversation with someone who really knows their subject, the sort of conversation you want to go on and on for ages and ages because of the fantastic nuggets of information just keep popping up. Some of the things mentioned had already occurred to me, but that was fine and I chose to see it as confirmation of the fact that I did have a bit of a clue about things. Often books can offer suggestions that actually bring an eye-roll and sigh as they are completely unrealistic, this is not once of those books. It is great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants 'cut to the chase' information which is practical, easy to put into practice and inspiring. I also bought Tessa's other book, Branded, it was great too though this one was my favourite of the two as had more in it that I could use.
