Bought for an ‘old’ friend, this really hit the mark in terms of age & a reflection of how years also fly by!
AGE GUIDE (from the back cover): ‘4 & 5 year olds will enjoy having it read to them and older children will want to read it themselves.’ (Well, my friend is certainly the latter!).

☀ HarperCollins Children’s Books/2007
This book was first published in 1958, and for that reason, arguably, may not be considered ‘politically correct’ for all the youngsters of today (with the use of some words such as kill, whip & gun). That said, the infectious tale has rhyme, humour, repetition and that drive to turn the page to see what happens next! Colourfully illustrated with meaningful facial expressions throughout, a great memory game is also presented, not forgetting problem solving through the eyes of a child.
The book has colourful paperback covers and measures around 22.5 cm x 16 cm.
Inside are 70 good quality, matte finish WHITE pages, in double-page format, with good-sized text in BLACK, capitalised at times FOR EFFECT!
Like good old-fashioned stories often do, the story begins & finishes in the same place, this one with a little boy nonchalantly sitting by a lake, looking at the sky.
At the start, a fly suddenly flies by and instigates a fast moving tale with an increasing collection of characters brought to life by illustrator Fritz Seibel. Each is in a hurry because they think something is ‘after them’ and explain the reason why. The little boy is philosophical and keen to help dispel each ‘fear ‘as it is presented.
Each is an assumption all put right at the end, quite simply, and underlines how things can get out of hand, like mountains out of molehills!
From inside the back cover:
'Read them together, read them alone, read them aloud and make reading fun!
With over 50 wacky stories to choose from, now it is easier than ever to find the right Dr. Seuss books for your child - just let the back cover colour guide you!
A FLY WENT BY is part of the BLUE BACK BOOKS series : for sharing with your child.
GREEN BACK BOOKS are for children just beginning to read on their own.
YELLOW BACK BOOKS are for fluent readers to enjoy.’
