Zac Elliott is at the top of his pro hockey game, has the supporters eating out of his hand, and is heading into tough negotiations regarding his continuing contract. Ultimately, his moves dictate the supporters moods.

Heather Ryan has been admiring Zac from afar, but she knows he's out of her reach, given she is the daughter of the teams owner. A relationship between these two would conjure up major negativity and bad press for the team, and certainly put a spanner in the works for his continuing success this season.

As expected, these two dance around each other, trying to keep a lid on their dalliance and emotions, but there are outside influences keen to expose them and cause major trouble.

I enjoyed this short, but succinct story. It packed a lot of drama, romance and steam into its limited pages. A great start to this series.

This is a cute little romance, with a sporting heart. The blurb is a little misleading, though, because there really isn’t much of a relationship before these two get outed to the press. Zac might have liked the look of Heather from afar for years, but they have one accidental meeting, followed by a joint escape from a party. They barely even kiss before trouble hits.

And boy does it! I’ve loved various different sports all my life, but I’ll admit I know nothing about hockey (I’m British, we play hockey in the mud, with balls made out of concrete and sticks that will break your shins), however I get that the more money there is in team sports, the more rabid the fans are. Maybe it’s because of the contracts and transfers, where players are ‘bought’ implying a sense of ownership. The way the fans react to Heather seems pretty extreme, until I think about some of the real life troubles sports stars have gone through. As with anything that gets taken to an obsessive level, that stuff is unhealthy.

Zac’s so lovely, though. He knows what he wants and he’s willing to fight for it. Even as everyone, everywhere is telling him to back off, to let it go, to move on. It’s only when he’s worried for Heather’s safety that he backs down a bit. Sort of. Temporarily, anyway. I loved that it wasn’t Heather he had to win here – she is never made into just a prize – but the support of the fans. He never once questions Heather or their relationship, it’s just everything else that has to be dealt with.

In all, this is a short, sweet read about a darker side of fame with a nice romance and a great ending in proper sporting style. Is a little cheesy? Yes, probably, but I don’t care - some days it’s nice to curl up with a tale in which love triumphs over all.

***Reviewed for HookedOnBooks***
Book Review by Nicole McCurdy

I have a tiny weakness for sports related books, although I’m slightly incapable of understanding even the most basic rules of any game or what the positions do I am rather fond of hot, sweaty, six-pack adorning athletes who have a penchant for going after what or who they want.
Flirting On Ice was a delightful little novella about an ice hockey star falling for his boss’s daughter, a big no-no since he is in the middle of contract negotiations with said boss and understandably the relationship is a conflict of interest for all parties involved, of course a touch of lust and ignorance of the consequences leads to some media fuelled drama and the hockey teams anger.
The usual problem I have with novellas is that they try to compact too much in to too little and often times the story and the characters are compromised by this, not so here. The writing flows so smoothly and the storyline progresses at a good steady rate with some lovely characterisation in not only the hero and heroine but in the small snippet we get in the side players. Zac and Heather, our two main protagonists are so likeable and well rounded thanks largely in part to Veronica and Susan’s ability to construct and mold two great romantic leads in such a quick amount of time, by the end of chapter one I was already rooting for them. There is just enough forbidden romance, angst and tension to throw the equilibrium off a rather sweet romance until we get to that show stopping rom-com worthy finale. A fantastic wee read for the colder nights because there is nothing quite as hot as an ice hockey hero who will go to the ends of the earth to secure the woman he loves. Five stars for Veronica and Susan.

3 - "I've watched you and wanted you for the last four years." Stars.

Flirting on Ice is a really good start to the Atlantic City Hustlers series. I haven't read a huge amount of books that are based around a Ice Hockey team and its players so this was a refreshing change.

This is a fast paced novella, and I liked the heat and buildup between Zac and Heather, although he has been lusting from afar for the last 4 years, his decision to make his feelings known to the bosses daughter, couldn't really come about at a worse time. What with his contract up for re-negotiation, the team struggling for superiority, and a nasty little spy reporting their whereabouts whenever they try to secretly get together, things turn a little nasty when the teams fans turn on Heather.

This is an easygoing read, if you have a few hours to spare. I liked the components used to bring this story together, and although it doesn't really offer any surprises, it was really well written, and lays the foundation to what could become an easy-to-get-addicted-to series.
