Review

...impressive..Key's book is accompanied by a very comprehensive narrative history; the phrase illustrated history normally means picture book , but there's a lot of text in this work, making it an extremely useful reference work. --Naval News. 05/2009

... one of the most comprehensive guides to British Naval Aviation ever produced and is highly recommended. --Model Aircraft Monthly. 10/2008

This book traces the complete history of the Royal Naval Air Service... a useful addition to any modeller's library... --Air Modeller. 10/2008

The Fleet Air Arm: An Illustrated History
Bought for my husband (ex member FAA) as a present. He considers the illustrations are very good although printed details are sparse in places. Not enough cover given to period 1945-1965 when a lot of British firsts happened and were adopted by the USA. For example the first ever helicopter troop landing (Muskateer), the angled flightdeck etc. However, the book does make very interesting reading.

This is a well produced and profusely illustrated book. Unfortunately the illustrations are mostly well known, and are all inadequately captioned- sometimes erroneously as is the Buccaneer S2 on page 123 captioned as an S1. Too many of the photographs are of modern museum aircraft or of reproductions. Although this enables many to be in colour, I would rather see contemporary photos of aircraft in service, even if this means that they in monochrome. There is a photo of a DH9 on p22 which is also printed (but in reverse) on p20, and captioned as a DH4! It is disappointing that the author refers to 'Parnell' aircraft, rather than the correct 'Parnall'' , and incorrectly captions all pictures of Short brothers aircraft as 'Shorts' - e.g. Shorts Sturgeon, instead of Short Sturgeon. There are other less important typos, such as 'St Nazair' instead of St Nazaire. Not fatal errors, but irritating and indicative of poor editing. There is a picture of Brewster Buffaloes on page 54, but I could not find any reference to them in the text. The index was no help, as amazingly there is no index of aircraft types! All in all a disappointment, more of a thick glossy magazine than a serious work of history.

Excellent book. Recommended to any Fleet Air Arm enthusiast = BUT- The contents were an incomplete history as far as I was concerned. There was no reference to one significant WW2 FAA fighter/bomber which had unique characteristics. Not even a photograph. I refer to the Westland Wyvern.
However:-
Prompt delivery.
Excellent secure packing.
Excellent Quality of Service
