Couple of things to bear in mind -
Because of it's weight, size and the fact it's made from rough cut stone, it will gouge and scratch softer work tops. You may want to pick up something to put under it if you have a wooden or laminate counter top to put it on.
It need's to be "worn in" before you can use it, otherwise you run the risk of grinding granite in with your spices initially, as the inside surface of the mortar is not perfectly smooth and needs to be worn down. To this end we used a small bag of pudding rice that had been stuck in the back of the cupboard for a while, (as the flavour is pretty neutral and unlikely to affect the taste of anything you grind later) and ground out small portions of the rice into flour over the course of a few days, till we were satisfied that it had been suitably ground down.
Finally, as with any other cut, untreated stone, this thing will mark if you get it anywhere near something greasy, so if you only want it as a decorative item, you may want to consider putting it in a location where it is unlikely to be touched by someone with greasy hands, or resign yourself to needing to wash it, often...
