In a nutshell, this movie is a highly entertaining action cop movie. This hasn't been made purely for the fight scenes, the story is genuinely interesting.
The fight scenes are extremely well made and instead of your usual punch/kick combos, Donnie Yen mixes it up with some high quality MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) moves that wouldn't look out of place in the UFC!!
Picture quality is excellent, and at this price - it's an absolute steal!!!!!!

Although containing an end sequence which is without doubt one of the best one-on-one fight scenes committed to film in recent years, the movie as a whole suffers from a lack of action, an unremarkable storyline and an overwhelming sense of depression. Donnie Yen plays the hard-boiled cop role convincingly and the rest of the cast don't dissapoint either, it's just not that gripping a plot to invest in. There's a good "Unforgiven" style scene that is quite powerful where one second you are shouting for the hero but in the next minute wishing he would stop. Being midway through the film at this point however - and this act of no great importance in regards to the last showdown - it doesn't really add that much to the whole peice, which is a shame.
For martial art movie fans this will prove a bore, albeit with a blistering end fight scene. As a film in its own right it is average at best. If you want to watch a really good Hong Kong cop thriller/drama then go for "Infernal Affairs". If however you want to watch a good, fast paced martial arts movie look elsewhere.

Reuniting Donnie Yen and director Wilson Yip after the superb SPL/KillZone - and originally intended as a prequel before rights problems intruded - Flash Point is disappointingly average at best. This time Yen's cop with anger management problems is trying to nail a trio of vicious Vietnamese smugglers, especially after they cripple undercover cop Louis Koo, but even at less than an hour-and-a-half the thin plot is relentlessly formulaic and by the numbers. It's not helped by the fact that it lacks SPL's much stronger characterisation and fatalistic mood, and while the action is rather more evenly distributed than in its predecessor, little of it stands out. Even the final extended showdown between Yen and Collin Chou feels disappointing: it may be physically gruelling, but the choreography isn't as outstanding and there's a lot less involvement in the characters doing the fighting. There's some tension with a bomb in a chicken (cooked, not live) that provides the film's most memorable sequence, but for the most part this is pretty much production-line B-movie fodder given A-movie production values: watchable but resolutely unremarkable.

Decent extras on the Blu-ray, though - deleted scenes, featurettes, TV spots and trailer.

This is a all region disc. The movie is in Chinese with subtitles in English. Quite some action towards the end. An average plot.
