Paper is fantastic, but let down by the finish.
on 28 September 2013
The paper really is beautiful - off white with faint grey lines, quite generously spaced. I use a fairly thick italic fountain pen (which writes quite wet) and I experience no bleed and only very minor ghosting. It is bound very well, and lies flat adequately.
The cover unfortunately is below par. Weird glossy sheen to it which shows some tool marks, and the gilt ending is really quite rubbish. It has a very cheap glittery look to it, quite akin to the make up they put on small children's Barbie dolls.
Possibly the cover will batter to a deeper, more matte finish, and maybe the tool marks will fade. I hope they do. The gilt edging will probably never look all that good, but passes a minor glance.
All in all, the paper is what saves this review. You're probably better off with a Moleskine, if you can bear the cramped ruling (I can't), or a Rhodia (if you can sacrifice some aesthetic spledour), or a Quo Vadis (if you can splash the cash). I don't know whether I would buy another one of these. The paper is very good, and the price is decent, but they aren't really a pleasure to use, while a really good notebook is. That said, it is a solid product, and you cant go far wrong with a notebook which has paper as good as this.
