Before getting this scale I was using a normal scale and writing my weight down on my notepad app on my phone. Putting in the date, weight etc. I have been doing this for years. I have found these scales amazing, they sync straight to my Fitbit app on my phone and log my weight, Fat level, and BMI . It is so good not having to worry about remembering what I weighed before I get to write it down. It is even better as I have a fitbit tracker watch too, which I have been using for years. My husband has even got into using the app as well and weighs himself on it. It is very clever how it knows who is who and does not give your weight results to anyone else which is important privacy to me.
Got this when it was on offer but this is the epitome of how a smart product should be. Having already got a Fitbit Charge HR 2, I was a keen fitbit user. So setting this product up was as simple as typing in my wifi password on my phone, and a 4 digit security code. That is it. I now weigh myself every morning and in about 5-10 seconds I get my weight, Body fat % and BMI with trend graphs automatically building. Both my wife and I use it and it automatically knows who is standing on it and syncs our weights to our separate Fitbit accounts automatically
The only thing I don't understand yet is the tolerance level for change as sometimes, if you have gone up or down a few pounds since the last weigh in it thinks you are a GUEST user and you have to manually set where it should sync but this is rare
Worked straight out of the box, syncs with my FitBit Flex and recognises me every time. Husband also uses it without FitBit, as a guest. Much more consistent that my previous scales. Looks great and really easy to keep clean. Could not be happier. Expensive? Well, I believe I got what I paid for... a really quality product.
Very disappointing product and very poor customer service.
Before I start this review I should state that I actually love Fitbit - I have a Fitbit Charge HR and I absolutely love it. I had a problem with a Fitbit Flex previously and the customer service I received was excellent.
I was so disappointed to find that customer service is not the same with the Aria.
Basically, you need to calibrate the scales every time you move them. So if you don't have room to store your scales exactly where you intend to use them every single time, your weight will always be wrong the first weigh. So you have to weigh twice. Yes, twice. Meaning that the sale is actually wrong 50% of the time. Wrong by up to half a stone / 7lbs in my experience.*
The wrong weight then syncs to your Dashboard of course, which messes up your stats so you have to manually go in and delete it. Sometimes you have to completely recalibrate the scales, meaning taking the batteries out, wait 15 seconds, replace the batteries then weigh yourself 5 times.
Fitbit are aware of this and basically don't care. Apparently having a product which is wrong 50% of the time is fine by them. Don't even bother speaking to them about it as they will just copy and paste the same nonsense about making sure the sale is on a hard floor / you are not weighing at different times of the day etc.
My scale also just randomly stopped connecting to WiFi after 3 months too - apparently you can't have a hyphen in your password... Fair enough, only the kit is clearly so problematic that the fact it did work with a hyphen for 3 months was a 'glitch' and to get it working again I had to change my passwords etc. From Fitbit:
"We understand you mentioned that the password has a hyphen (-) and there is no way Aria could have connect in the past to the router with this special character. So if it did in the past, then it was because of a glitch. So in order to get it corrected the special character should be removed and password should be changed to only alphanumeric password."
*Edit - Actually, the best way to ensure a correct reading is to weigh yourself at least 5 times and take the first two consistent readings as accurate, or reset the scales each weigh by removing the battery, waiting 15 seconds then replacing. Then weigh twice and the second reading should be accurate.
Wish I had read the reports before buying. Took forever to set them up. Stated poor WiFi even when next to the router. Misidentifies me even though I am the only user. Randomly refuses to sync because of poor WiFi. Can not recommend these scales whatsoever & they are being returned.
I have spent 2 hours trying to set it up this morning. I did manage to set it up but its connection to the Wifi was very temperamental - it said Wifi was weak when I was sitting next to the hub (yet my mobile phone displayed a full strength signal). Once set up, I weighed myself but it displayed weight only, no body fat composition or lean mass. The display screen goes blank and you're not sure whether it is still trying to collect the data. After a while, you realise it isn't. It also did not sync to my phone and there does not seem to be a manual sync option as there is with my Blaze. I reset it, removed the device from the App and started the set up process again. The same process as above happened on repeat. Also the set up instructions are inadequate, there is no detail, just cartoon images more appropriate for a 5 year old. As this was a gift, I hadn't read any reviews prior to receiving it, but now having read both Amazon reviews and the Fitbit Community Forum, these problems seem rife. I fear this product will frustrate me greatly and will be returning it.
