Product Description

Review

"A well–constructed synthesis of biological, ecological, assessment, and management information, and an overall improvement to the first edition...King makes a sometime difficult subject clear to understand." ( Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries , November 2008) "A very up–to–date and substantially improved second edition of this important book. It now incorporates a significant focus in ecosystem management." (Ausmarine)

Review

"The main differences between the first and second editions relate to an updating of the text in the light of recent developments in fisheries technology, stock assessment methods and management practices, along with the addition of a chapter covering general aspects of marine ecology. King′s book is most suitable for undergraduate courses in fisheries biology/science, and caters for the needs of students who may have little prior knowledge of aquatic biology."
–Malcolm Jobling, NFH, University of Tromsø

Bought this when I was doing my MSc in Marine Biology and its fisheries module, it was invaluable contrary to the previous review! There is a new edition out which is about 6x the cost of this one, however there is very little difference between the two! The only difference is (apologies for science babble!) working out mortality curves (Z) which this one explains however, there is a quick formula in the new edition which can easily be found online, or go to the university library! So if you want help with fisheries statistics I would highly recommend this book to students on a budget!

The index of this book is totally useless, and dosent cover everything, therefore finding specific information in this book is a pain. Im on a second year biology degree and so far wish i had opted for a different book, regardless of my lecurer recomending it.

Received it on time and the condition was great. Although, the book does till this day have a faint fishy smell. You only notice it when flipping over the pages, but it's miniscule that it doesn't bother me.
