Mr J says:
I would appreciate your guidance in the subject of "First World War"
For now, I have two titles to choose:
-Stevenson, David - 1914-1918, The History of the First World War
-Keegan, John - The First World War

What do you think of them?
Or there are better ones?

M. W. Stone says:
Depends how much you've studied before.

If you're new to the subject, read Keegan. There are also books by Cyril Falls, Max Hastings and AJP Taylor which are worth a read. Taylor is probbaly the most readable, but also the most opinionated and best read in conjunction with others.

Incidentally, AF Pollard's "A Short History of the Great War" is available online at http://www.ibiblio.org/HTMLTexts/Albert_Frederick_Pollard/A_Short_History_Of_The_Great_War/contents.html and provides a good narrative account from a primarily British viewpoint. Written in 1920, it is thus relatively free from the hindsight which clutters up too many such books.

If/when you are already well grounded in the chronology, and want to study in greater depth, then it will be time to go on to Stevenson.
