Review

First Touch by Laurelin Paige just left me speechless!! I was so blown away how much it affected me! It's so dark and delicious and I could not get enough of [it] . . . I have already labelled it a best of 2016 it was just that good (Just Me and My Kindle)

I was hooked in from the beginning . . . I can't wait for June to come around as I am dying for the next installment (One Girl Lost In Romance Books)

I've read some amazing books recently but they all pale in comparison to First Touch. That cliffhanger is the best cliffhanger EVER. Damn, this is one of the best books I've ever read . . . Freaking amazing book (My YA & NA Book Obsession)

Book Description

Why, oh why did I wait so long to read this?! It's been sitting on my kindle since it was first released and I kept pushing it back. I am a moron!

This book is just, wow! It's an amazing read and my emotions are still reeling from the roller coaster ride they just took. First Touch is emotionally charged, deliciously dark and soul engulfing! The further I ventured into its pages the more invest I became. I felt like I became a part of the story itself, like I was one of those security cameras watching, a voyeur of Emily and her life and I bloody loved every damn second of it.

Emily is a very complex character, who is easy to love and even to hate at in some moments. She comes with a dark past which partly or mostly drives her life in the present. Her love and ties to former best friend Amber are what pushes her to find answers and look in places that any normal person would be terrified to even glance at!

Cue Reeve. This man makes ALL previous book boyfriends look like disney in comparison. He is seductive, controlling and dangerous and he sings to me on EVERY level! He is just as complex as Emily and probably even more secretive.

As their lives collide and the pair start peeling back the layers and learning more about each other and letting each other into each others lives more be prepared for all kinds if emotions and secrets that start to unravel. Their relationship and feelings get deeper and so does everything surrounding them.

This is a story that you will pick up, read and it will stay with you. It is full of moments that will shock you, control you, make you feel and most definitely keep you on your toes the entire time! And like me you will be left wondering what took you so long to read this amazing book!

Let me start by saying this really isn't normally my type of book, I'm the girl who needs the happily ever after with the dreamy yet flawed prince. First Touch has none of those things. To be fair I really feel as if I should warn you - First Touch may just be heart attack inducing.

From the very beginning I felt as if my skin was itching, the story quite literally got under my skin. The characters are all deeply flawed and damaged. There are a hell of a lot of triggers in this plot so anxiety levels were off the scales in empathy as opposed to actual experience (yeah that would just be *shudders*) I found myself having to step back, the intensity is consuming.

The story weaves past events with current action; told from Emily's point of view, for me the first person narrative was desperately needed in order to form the connection to the characters. While Emily has done a lot of risqué things you cannot help but admire the woman she has become. Her desperate need to please was understanderable but a little uncomfortable from an outside perspective. Emily has truly risen above her dubious origins, not letting the past define the woman she has become.

As the history between Emily and Amber is unraveled I couldn't help but wonder why on earth Emily would want to help Amber. I completely and utterly detested Amber (not easily achieved as it's also my oldest daughters name) If you looked up the definition of toxic in the dictionary you would see a picture of Amber. She was seriously that awful, manipulative and rapacious. To be honest I don't think she had a redeeming quality even the initial help she provided Emily was more than a little self-serving.

My initial thoughts:
Honestly there are no words. Why isn't there a ten-star rating, hell a gazillion star rating? I've read some amazing books recently but they all pale in comparison to First Touch. That cliffhanger is the best cliffhanger EVER. Damn, this is one of the best books I've ever read. It's sick and twisted and depraved and the most addictive story ever. LP is a phenomenal writer. Okay, must stop gushing now, need sleep. Freaking amazing book.

FULL REVIEW:

Laurelin Paige delivers another scintillating good read that will blow your mind. Wow. Superb writing combined with complex characters and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat has ensured First Touch a place on my absolute favorite reads of 2015.

Emily appears to be the consummate up-and-coming TV personality on the outside; beautiful, intelligent, professional, and self-sufficient. But underneath that carefully created exterior lurks a girl who is almost the exact opposite. Since she parted ways with bestie Amber seven years ago (on bad terms) she has reinvented herself and tried to suppress that side of her nature. Now, Amber has reached out, indicating she's in trouble, and out of a misguided sense of loyalty, Emily sets out to uncover the truth behind her friend's disappearance.

Her quest for the truth brings her to elusive billionaire Reeve Salis, hot hotelier with a somewhat dubious rep. Ah, Reeve. Love the name, and by the end of the book, I loved the man. At the outset, I believed everything that was said about him, and I was scared for Emily, but as the story progressed and Emily's opinion started to change so did mine. (view spoiler)

I really enjoyed the mystery/suspense element of the plot and the mob connection.
