About the Author
Andy Mitchell is one of Scotland's leading sports historians. He sat on the Scotland bench at the opening match of the 1998 World Cup, but sadly was not called upon to face Brazil as he was the team press officer. As head of communications at the Scottish FA, he saw international football up close when he travelled with the Scotland team from the Faroes to the Far East, and now works as a media officer for UEFA.
Passionate about sports history, he is on the selection panel for the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame and a member of the British Society of Sports History.

I have bought this book as a present for my father-in-law who not only loves football but is also related to one of the original Scottish international players. I haven't given it to him yet but am hoping that he doesn't notice it has already been well read by me! I am not in the least interested in football, but found the book fascinating. I was delighted to be able to buy this book as he had been told it was out of print. Why? It is a book that I would have thought most football fans would find incredibly interesting - packed full of facts that can't easily be found elsewhere. Oh, and the delivery was very quick, the book arrived in perfect condition and had also been signed by the author. I anticipate that my father-in-law will be very pleased with his birthday present.

Amazing research. I had no idea that there were more England v. Scotland than just the famous 1872 encounter. I really was fascinated at the volume of material the author found from the Children and Grand-Children of these football pioneers. The Author was a former Scottish International. I would like to have read more on the meaning of these matches.
