Product description

Review

"The real accomplishment of Oldham's book is her concentration on the psychology of editors rather than just their technical ingenuity ... Let's hope a third volume of this illuminating series will follow." -- Kevin Lewis Editors Guild Mag

From the Inside Flap

"Another must-read book for a whole new generation of editors."--Alan Heim, American Cinema Editors

"First Cut 2 is the perfect sequel to its predecessor, an entertaining and in-depth examination of the editorial process. In each riveting interview, editors invite us into their inter sanctum, revealing fresh insights and providing concrete solutions to editorial challenges and problems. Gabriella Oldham poses intelligent questions that home in on many of the concerns I share with my editing colleagues. A brilliant compendium of talents and styles."--Carol Littleton, American Cinema Editors

Fantastic follow up to the first book. More of a discussion of the expressive nature of editing than that technical one, which is welcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book 11 Dec. 2012
By Victor M Livingston - Published on Amazon.com

Well-researched, very sensitive and insightful. Gives an interesting and tantalizing perspective of what happens "behind the scenes." The people she interviewed are very lively, creative folks who create films for a living. If you want to know how good movies really get made, read this.
5.0 out of 5 stars In-Depth, Insightful Interviews 19 May 2015
By GG - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is an excellent book for those who wish to get inside the minds of film editors and gain insight into the editorial process. I enjoyed the previous book just as much as this one and would recommend both for anyone serious about learning the craft of editing. Oldham has really created something of permanent value here by publishing such extensive interviews and by knowing editing and the work of each editor well enough to ask highly intelligent, deeply probing questions. Her knowledge and skill in this area no doubt helped the editors give thoughtful and comprehensive responses. I don't know how she pulled off putting together this material, but it will stand the test of time for future generations to study and learn from.
