This is a wonderfull colection of short stories.
I found this book having already read Dreamsnake, and enjoying the (then rare) taste of female science fiction and fantasy.
The stories in this book are beautifully written. They differ widely in scope from the vulnerable lonleyness of "Dark" in Fireflood, to the tough grit of Screwtop, and the evolution of the fliers from fireflood into space.
A jem. Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic work of science fiction 19 April 2013

I purchased this collection after reading Vonda McIntyre's story "Aztecs" in a science fiction literature class. McIntyre's depictions of isolation and correlating identity are both fascinating and painful. Each story has a uniqely intricate style of world-building that draws you in before you notice it happening. Whether you are new to sci-fi or an oldschool fan, you'll love this collection.
