Kassandra Wentworth (aka Kitt) has suffered a trauma in her past that means she does not wish to marry - not anyone. She is known for being freespirited and impetuous and it is judged she is ripe for scandal to hit, so not many seem want to marry her except for her rather attractive dowry. Clayton Harcourt, bastard son of a wealthy duke, is not looking for a wife. Although the two have known each other for some time, Clay has become aware that he cannot wait until Kitt marries until he begins an affair with her - he will have to marry her himself. This unabashed rake therefore goes so far as to be responsible for her downfall - her reputation in tatters, she agrees to marry Clay.
Okay, pretty standard Regency Romance stuff, you think. And what's wrong with that, so long as it is well written and there is enough spark of originality contained within? How delightful, then, that this book offers even more. It is very densely written, and continues on where others might have left off, that is where we the reader knows how the central characters feel, certainly everyone else in the book does, and now the moment might be ripe for them to know it too. Instead the plot takes a sudden turn down a new path and the story thickens into a more satisfying mix. This deeper than usual treatment skilfully draws out the tale and turns a generic romance into something fuller with a great deal more adventure, flavour and style.
The characters are very well drawn, not only the central characters but also the supporting ones. Justin and Ariel's tale has already been told in 'Heartless', but it is not necessary to read that book before this one - the story is plenty strong enough to stand on it's own.

Get married or get sent to a convent, what a choice, Kassandra 'Kitt' Wentworth has to make. Kitt is a rebel who does not accept the rigid conventions of London in 1805. Clayton Harcourt is the bastard son of a duke who takes on the task of taming her and rescuing her from her various adventures.
Once again Kat Martin had written a story that will keep you entertained with her characters and waiting for her next story to be published.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kat Martin is an excellent author. 25 April 2016
By Deanna R. Conkle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I have read many of Kat Martin's books and really haven't read any that I didn't enjoy. I look for her books and watch for them to be released so I can read them.
My biggest problem is that I received a Kindle Paper White at Christmas to download books for easy reading. I have found it very easy to do just that; however, I am an avid reader and like to have several books downloaded ahead. I tend to get confused on which bookI am reading on the Paper White because the name never appears after the first page. Why can't the name of the book you are reading appear somewhere on the page you are reading? I would save a lot of confusion for readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book-horrible spelling! 8 Sept. 2015

I have never bought a book with so many spelling errors. Whoever proofed this book needs to be fired! Other than that the story was good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining historical romance! 24 Sept. 2015
By Carol S - Published on Amazon.com

The typos and grammar errors noted by other reviewers have been corrected.

I enjoyed this historical romance which contained romance and suspense. Kitt became very likeable with her adventures and efforts to save her husband from the villains that he was protecting her from. The characters were well developed and the H and h had past hurts that they had to overcome to get their HEA.

Another excellent book by Kat Martin! I cannot read enough of her books. Once I get into them I cannot put them down. I have yet to read one of her books and not absolutely love it! Highly recommend any of her books!
