HOWEVER, after renting the Kindle version of the book I discovered that not all the photos are in the Kindle version. Some areas are grayed out and it states the pictures are not available due to copyright issues. This is a seemingly minor issue but all sections of the book are testable and I'm sure they could find a way to include something about a photo in the test. Also, the pictures might help demonstrate something that's presented In the book. I would think if you paid for use of the book you would get all the content.
I called Amazon and tech support kept trying to fix it. Finally, I just had them cancel the order and bought the actual book. They were very helpful and ultimately we reached a resolution.
Afterwards, I talked to a coworker who also had the Kindle book and the same issue so it does not appear to be something tech support could fix.
I do recommend the book, just beware of this issue when making your decision to buy the book or the Kindle edition.
The appendix comes with sample ISO SOPs covering incident actions, ISO selection and training, checklists for resource evaluation, recon and report/planning.
This book is just under 350 pages, which is short compared to other fire service books I've read. I was expecting a larger book, given the importance of having a safety officer on-scene and the amount of duties the job entails. That being said, Dodson packs a lot of information into these pages.
If a fire department is interested in creating an ISO position or if someone wants to learn more about what ISOs do, this would be the book to start with.
