This is the last of a series of books and, although I found it highly descriptive and well written as usual, the storyline became a little confused at times and I was left wondering which timeline was which. Nevertheless, an enjoyable read with many moments of suspense.

The majority of the book is very well written, with wonderful trips through time into the background of characters who have been mentioned in earlier books, such as Gawain, Guinevere and Agawin, not to mention the history of Gwilanna. All of these back stories and the areas they take place in are described very well and continue to make you want to turn the pages. They are full of action, drama, dragons and wonderfully drawn characterisation.

However the final 3 sections of the book didn't live up to this at all. The first of these (7, I think) is the climax of the book and split into many parts, however it all feels very rushed and not nearly enough detail is given. D'Lacey states in his interview at the end of the book that he was initially going to devote a lot more to this part of the book and was encouraged not to by his editors. As the earlier parts of the book are mostly background and leading up to this point, I was disappointed to feel like someone had skimmed the real chapter and written a cliff-notes edition of it.7 is still exciting and enjoyable however and does leave you with some degree of understanding and closure.

8 and 9 on the other hand are catastrophic - any attempt at 'ending' the book is abandoned. Certain characters' stories, which had been built up wonderfully throughout the whole series and whose climaxes I had been anticipating with relish, were reduced to a single sentence. This, for me, will bitter my re-reading of the preceding books. And then the majority of chapter 9 is rather unappealing self-advertising, with horrible use of names from our own world and a none-too-subtle appeal for a film to be made. Moreover, I felt 8 added little to my understanding of what had happened and 9 had no relevance or interest whatsoever.

Id loved the series originally but felt some of the 'magic ' had been lost in the last 2 books. Happy to own it to complete the set, and the first 5 were excellent- i just feel the final two stories were a little confusing.

I chose a five star rating because I found this book really exciting and interesting also I love it when there are all the different stages of time at different parts in the book. There are hardly any parts I disliked. To sum it up I thought it was a brilliant book and that everyone should read it.

At the start it was hard to get into also to understand but it got more interesting and hard to let go of. Overall this is a very good book though in a way I wish there was more books to read because there's always that empty feeling of what to read next after finishing a set of books.

If you have read the rest of the books you simply must read this. I worried that Fire World might have ruined it by forgetting about the original world, but this book was perfect. If you haven't read the series, I highly recommend it!

The last of the wonderful last dragon chronicles but by gosh what a truely amazing author Chris D Lacey is.
This book goes back in time and explains the legend of Guinavere and the dragons and proceeds to take you to a world so creative and somewhat complex. The Fire Ascending captures your imagination and drags you into a place you never would have imagined without the help of D Lacey (or is it David?)
The last few pages became hard to read knowing my favorite book series was coming to an end and it was a nice closure fitting for the series, when i closed the book my answer to the final word was 'sometimes.'
Thanks Chris for a wonderful adventure! x lets hope a movie of these wonderful books does them justice!

I loved reading some of the histories to the characters, sparked my imagination and kept me hooked throughout.
More detail would have been better at the end.
If your a fan of dragons and magic I definitely recommend reading The Last Dragon Chronicles.
