However the final 3 sections of the book didn't live up to this at all. The first of these (7, I think) is the climax of the book and split into many parts, however it all feels very rushed and not nearly enough detail is given. D'Lacey states in his interview at the end of the book that he was initially going to devote a lot more to this part of the book and was encouraged not to by his editors. As the earlier parts of the book are mostly background and leading up to this point, I was disappointed to feel like someone had skimmed the real chapter and written a cliff-notes edition of it.7 is still exciting and enjoyable however and does leave you with some degree of understanding and closure.
8 and 9 on the other hand are catastrophic - any attempt at 'ending' the book is abandoned. Certain characters' stories, which had been built up wonderfully throughout the whole series and whose climaxes I had been anticipating with relish, were reduced to a single sentence. This, for me, will bitter my re-reading of the preceding books. And then the majority of chapter 9 is rather unappealing self-advertising, with horrible use of names from our own world and a none-too-subtle appeal for a film to be made. Moreover, I felt 8 added little to my understanding of what had happened and 9 had no relevance or interest whatsoever.Read more ›
This book goes back in time and explains the legend of Guinavere and the dragons and proceeds to take you to a world so creative and somewhat complex. The Fire Ascending captures your imagination and drags you into a place you never would have imagined without the help of D Lacey (or is it David?)
The last few pages became hard to read knowing my favorite book series was coming to an end and it was a nice closure fitting for the series, when i closed the book my answer to the final word was 'sometimes.'
Thanks Chris for a wonderful adventure! x lets hope a movie of these wonderful books does them justice!
More detail would have been better at the end.
If your a fan of dragons and magic I definitely recommend reading The Last Dragon Chronicles.
