Review

Does a sound job.

(Independent on Sunday)

From the Inside Flap

This is arguably the best of the titles so far in the Finest Wines series and the best book about German wines in English for a generation. --John Winthrop Haeger, author of "North American Pinot Noir"
The author s voice is consistently engaged and enthusiastic, and his book should appeal to a general readership of wine lovers as well as to anyone with a professional interest in German wine. --David Schildknecht, German wine authority for The Wine Advocate and the "Oxford Companion to Wine"" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Do not expect Reinhardt's book to be a comprehensive encyclopedia of all German wines and districts. It is though an excellent overview of present day wine-making and wine makers, written for those of us lucky enough to have an interest in German wine already. It takes in, as the book's title suggests, just a few of the finest examples of this countries' very underated and misunderstood wines and their makers. For once, the book introduces the producers by name and with informal photo portraits to make it a more human experience. It is clearly compiled for those who wish to expand their understanding and experience of this delightful subject - it is a door opener to wider appreciation and discovery, not an end in itself. Enthusiasts should not hesitate in getting a copy of this invaluable and well presented book.

Good Book with nice photos, but not as good as "The Wines for Germany" as they cover far more wine marker than this book.

Perhaps a good guide to regional wines is hard to produce and this is no exception. There are lots of facts, but it is hardly riviting reading and there is nothing equivalent for tasting the wine.
