I brought this book without really reading the reviews, rarely do you get a book about a patient from a hospital. And I have to say, it was a very very interesting book to read! Some bits made me gasp and feel angry, parts made me want to hug the writer and tell her not everyone in the world is bad. I am only 18 (well 17, but 18 in a week)...and I did at one point ask my mum "Why do some people seem to be made to suffer, where as others don't even get touched by evil people".

This book is absolutely amazing, and makes you look at child abuse the mental health system in a completely new light.

Thank you for writing this book, I read it in 2 days, just couldn't put it down...except where it made me so angry I wanted to smash my kindle!

You are an amazing writer and woman! I wish you all the luck in your life. And to people thinking of purchasing this book. Do it! You won't regret it!

I stumbled upon this book by chance via Facebook. This I am ever thankful for.. I had downloaded it for weeks before I read it. .
However once I started I couldn't put it down. I found that this author provided us with such insight to the character you almost felt you were her..
As formally trained as a psychiatric nurse it actually made me question myself. Did I ever treat a mental health patient with as little respect as the author had At times been shown??? Every mental health worker should read this..
The level of abuse that the author suffered was described in a very heartfelt way. There was no way you didn't know how much loathing the author felt for both the abuser and for herself. Obviously she couldn't control this abuse and hid it from loved ones as only an abused Child/ Adult can..Also she made us undersand the hardship suffered wen not understanding why her loving parents didn't notice the signals of abuse..
I definitely felt this book provided me with a certain amount of catharsis. It was difficult to read at times but None of the books containing this sort of abuse is considered light reading.
I most certainly would never describe the abuse scenes as being titillating.. That's actually a gross comment from a previous reviewer..
Really glad the author has managed to turn her life around and I'm so glad she was spared by God to help so many with her tail..
thanks

An incredible book that is very thought provoking and leaves you with a broad range of emotions - to name a few -
Revoltion, sadness, joy at how Lisa has survived and her own family are now thriving!
It's amazing that Lisa has the inner strength to write her experiences and publish them. I'm sure if other people have been through similar situations reading this will help them with their healing process.

Such an insight into the life of a very special and talented person,

I started reading this book, but still was not sure if I would continue reading. I thought maybe it would be one-sided. I'm glad that I did. It was riveting, at times unbelievable, at other times so emotionally charged, I did not want to. I wish the author good karma for life and health.

I was not sure if to enroll to the University in a Nurse Mental Health, or Adult or child course, but after to read the description of this book I felt attracted to read it...
It was a very good choice! As I already work with adults with challenging behaviour, this book gave me the insight of how, from the perspective of the customer, their lives could be, their fears, how some "professinals" treat them and in general the fight to recover their lives.

I read this book in a couple of days, it made me feel angry at times, sad and/or happy for the effort this woman put into get back her life. I will recommend it to anybody that at the moment feels its alone, as this will show you there are lots of other people, families struggling with mental health problems. And to others that like me want to know more, this is an easy book to follow with a very interesting history.

I bought this book after seeing it was recommended by the BPS. It did not disappoint. I think the form, structure, language and inclusions were all well thought out in order to reflect the emotions 'Bridget' was experiencing. It engaged the reader, allowing them to empathise with what she experienced, which didn't always make logical sense. Rather, she followed her emotions, and they were erratic at times. It displayed the problems of mental health issues well using these methods.
The end of the book was how it should be..my favourite part..it sums up the feeling I have very succinctly and simplistically. At the end of the day, the complexities of life boil down to these simple sentiments. It was very well done, and you have inspired people like me! The author should be very proud of herself! The book was indeed a true story.. but even if it weren't and I knew anyone were to resemble the main character in the book, even remotely, I would be very proud of them. I'm sure it has changed a lot of people's lives! I would recommend reading this book if you are interested in Psychology, the health care/mental health systems and therapy units; have been through or have an interest in learning more about child abuse, sexual abuse, familial dysfunction, problems of low self-esteem, or the behavioural patterns which are a product of many mental health issues. It affirms the desire of many with mental health problems to strive for a simplistically happy, normal, peaceful life.
