Abby Murphy spent her whole childhood building what is now a stellar performing career. She seems to have it all--money, fame, and a sexy guitarist boyfriend. As FINDING US opens, we learn that public appearances are often illusions. Abby's mother Vivian not only runs her career, she dictates Abby's life. This includes pressuring her to stay with an abusive boyfriend for contractual and publicity reasons. Abby's only support comes from her assistant/best friend Sophie and her bodyguard Danny Nucci. These two become pivotal to Abby's emotional and physical well being when her ex's pressure to reconcile turns into a nightmarish case of stalking and her mother refuses to take the threat seriously.
Presley does a wonderful job of taking Abby from a smothered, somewhat naive "asset" to a mature, self-directed adult. It isn't a quick or easy path. Abby doesn't suddenly wake up prepared to take on her iron-willed (and iron-hearted) mother. At first, Abby she'd much rather give in and keep life quiet. It might have been an option if ex-boyfriend Sean was simply annoying or even annoying and unfaithful. I could definitely see Abby choosing to play a part to shut her mother up. But Sean can't hide his violent and obsessive nature. Fear forces Abby to take a stand. It's only later, when she has a taste of independence (painful as it is at first), does Abby continue standing up for herself by choice.
Danny Nucci provides a safe haven for Abby. At first it's an emotional haven.Read more ›
I’ve been lucky enough to read a whole slew of debut authors recently and I have to say that the quality of these books and writing are really quite awesome. This one in particular feels like Debra Presley has been writing forever. I can’t honestly believe it’s her first novel. So congrats on that, I’m really looking forward to reading more in the future.
When it comes to the kind of books I read I openly admit that the ones that involve the music industry are amongst my least favourite. What compelled me to want to read this one was the fact that it didn’t appear it was going to be all sex, drugs and rock n roll. The “rocker” in question is actually a pop princess thrown into the life she leads and held there by people manipulating her. I really enjoyed this because of that fact. This read more like a romantic suspense than anything else. It’s not full of smut and hard-core shenanigans that you would normally associate with this kind of genre. It deals with some very real issues and Debra wasn’t afraid to throw her hand in and give the reader some difficult scenes.
Dual POV which is a huge bonus for me, it meant I could get into both Abby and Danny’s heads, it’s my preferred way to read and I think Debra managed to pull of the difference in tone for both male and female. The character development was really spot on, I really liked both these characters immensely and the right kind of hook was created from the get go. The author gave a great connection with likeable and relatable characters. The conflict and the pulling and pushing were present in the plot lines and characters. There is such a myriad of really good secondary characters, each with resoundingly different personalities.Read more ›

“Abby, baby, I'm sorry. She followed me back, and I had a couple of drinks. It was stupid, I know. Please, please, baby, I'm sorry.”
“Don't. Don't you f****** come near me. Get out. We're done”
“Baby, you can't do this. You don't mean it. You know I love you. I made a mistake. Let's talk about this. You're tired.”
“You love me? That's f****** rich. I saw exactly how much you love me just now. Get out.”
Abby Murphy lives a life of glitz and glamour. For all appearances, she has everything a girl could ever dream of – fame, fortune and a loving relationship with her guitar player/boyfriend Sean – until the night she finds him in the arms of a groupie and calls things off. But Sean will not walk away easily. As it turn out, he has had ulterior motives for quite some time, motives he is in no way willing to give up on. Overnight it seems, Sean makes the change from smitten boyfriend to psycho ex bound and determined to get what he wants regardless of who gets hurt in the process. When even Abby's manager seems to side with her crazed ex, and having no idea who she can trust anymore, she turns to the only man who has ever made her feel truly safe – her head of security. All too soon she starts to develop feeling for the only man who understands her and just allows her to be herself, but he makes it clear he is just doing his job. When Abby finally takes control of her life, will she have the courage to lay it all on the line for him?
Danny Nucci knows he has allowed himself to become too emotionally attached to his client, but it is too late to turn back – he doesn't trust anyone else to keep her safe. But getting involved with the starlet is out of the question.Read more ›
