Product Description

Review

"There is, then, in "Final Incal," no hint of a dulling of the edge, nor any softening of Jodorowsky s aesthetic. The maestro still delights in shocking his audience; he still loves mutations and deformity, but he is also willing to be utterly brazen in delivering an alarmingly naive message (only true love can save us from turning into unfeeling metallic beings, man) just as he was completely unembarrassed about introducing us to a giant golden god-baby at the end of the original "Incal." " - tcj.com ""Final Incal" is Jodorowsky at his mad, imaginative best, and fans of The Incal are sure to enjoy plunging headfirst back into the world of John DiFool." - Digitalspy.co.uk"

About the Author

Alejandro Jodorowsky is a playwright, filmmaker, composer, mime, psychotherapist, and author of many books on spirituality and tarot, and over thirty comic books and graphic novels. He has directed several films, including "The Rainbow Thief "and the cult classics "El Topo" and "The Holy Mountain". He lives in France.

Jean Giraud aka M bius was a French artist, cartoonist, and writer, who worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinees tradition. Giraud earned worldwide fame, predominantly under the pseudonym M bius, which he used to create a wide range of science fiction and fantasy comics in a highly imaginative and surreal, almost abstract style. Esteemed by Federico Fellini, Stan Lee and Hayao Miyazaki, among many others, he is considered as the most influential bande dessinee artist, and a continued influence to filmmakers and artists around the world.

Alejandro Jodorowsky (also known as Alexandro Jodorowsky) is a Chilean film and theatre director, screenwriter, playwright, actor, comic book writer, author, poet, mime, musician, and spiritual guru. He is best known for his avant-garde, cult films, such as "El Topo," a Midnight movie favorite, or "Santa Sangre." In the mid 1970s, he became attached to direct the adaptation of the famous Frank Herbert sci-fi epic novel "Dune." He brilliantly assembled a team of extremely diverse and gifted artists such as HR Giger, Chris Foss, Dan O'Bannon, and M bius, all of who would later be hired to work on Ridley Scott's "Alien." "Dune" was never produced, but Jodorowsky, having been exposed to such immense visual talent, propelled himself into writing graphic novels, pairing up with the artist M bius. This collaboration resulted in what many consider to be one of the most creative European sci-fi graphic novel series of all time, "The Incal." Since penning "The Incal," Jodorowsky continued writing top selling comic books with a wide variety of Europe's most talented artists, such as "The White Lama" (with Georges Bess), "The Metabarons" (with Juan Gimenez), "The Technopriests" (with Zoran Janjetov), and most recently "Bouncer" (with Francois Boucq).

Ladronn grew up drawing and inking in Mexico while idolizing artists such as M bius. Ladronn has drawn for Marvel, DC, and several independent publishing houses. He won an Eisner Award for his work on Hip Flask back in 2006. He is currently working on Son of El Topo with frequent collaborator, Alexandro Jodorowsky.

Jodorowsky finally pens an emphatic full-stop to his cult Incal series with the aid of the talented Ladronn (acclaimed artist of The Elephantmen). The artwork is nothing short of eye-popping and features some of Ladronn's most inspired and visionary frames. And thanks to this over-sized, limited edition, they almost jump off the page. The plot features many of the usual suspects from the earlier Incal books and centres around John Di Fool's awkward quest to regain his erased memories and identity while simultaneously trying to rescue his sweetheart Luz AND save the universe from assimilation by an evil god-machine bent on the destruction of all biological life. It's another crazy Jodostory, peppered with his trademark psychedelic fringe-science and pseudo-spiritual posturing. However, the usual vitality that one might expect from his quirky and provocative scripts never seems to fully manifest itself in this series. The dialogue can, on occasion, feel a little simplified or rushed. This may be due, in part, to the somewhat uninspired translation into English, and partly due to the fact that Jodorowsky was forced to 'revisit' the script when artist Moebius pulled out of the Final Incal project after only completing the first tome (After the Incal). Jodorowsky then collaborated with Ladronn and decided to start from scratch, thereby conserving the artistic continuity of the series. Thankfully, 'After the Incal' is also included at the end of this deluxe edition, showcasing Moebius' last inking contribution to the Incal series, Fred Beltran's famed CGI colouring and the far more inspired and complex original script/translation.Read more ›

Please be aware although the hardback version is the full 3 parts, the Kindle edition only appears to be part 3 which is approx 50 pages. it's more obvious if you come via the kindle store but if, like me, you come via the paper version then choosethe kindle option note that you will not be receiving the full 3 volumes, and amazon don't appear to sell the kindle versions of vols 1 & 2 separately.
I have contacted amazon to let them know as it appears the US kindle version is all 3 parts, judging by the reviews.
thanks.

This is a great graphic novel and is unlike anything I have ever read before. I found it dark, humorous and full of interesting characters including the main protagonist, the slightly likable anti-hero of the story and his concrete bird.
