The Filtrete air purifier has an electrostatically charged filter specially designed for capturing large, airborne allergens like pollen, mould spores and dust mite debris. The fibres within the filter are charged to act like tiny magnets that attract and capture small particles. The unit also captures dust, bacteria, smoke, smog and virus carrying particles.
Why filter airborne particles & allergens?
There is more to keeping your home clean than just cleaning surfaces. The air quality inside your home is affected by multiple factors like; cooking , house pets, plants and you. Have you ever noticed dust particles floating in a stream of sunlight? These are only a small fraction of the particles that can be found in the air in your home. Many particles are invisible to the naked eye and can lurk in the air for a long time. These microscopic particles can be a small as 0.3 microns and smaller. (In comparison, a human hair is about 50 microns). The particles in the air you breathe isn't just dust, it could also include common allergens such as: Pollen, plant and mould spores, pet dander, smoke, and dust mite debris. Some particles can also carry bacteria and viruses. Many everyday activities in the home such as dusting, vacuuming, cooking and smoking can increase concentrations of these airborne particles.
Enhanced filtration on a sustained basis
Filtrete room air purifiers use replaceable filters to deliver the enhanced filtration of an electrostatic filter on a sustained basis. 3M recommends a filter change every 3 months of continuous use, replacing the filter is important for maintaining the effectiveness of your Filtrete™ Room Air Purifier.
How do I compare room air purifiers?
It is possible to compare two room air purifiers by looking at their Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR). The higher the clean air delivery rate, the faster the purifier will clean the air. Another useful measure is the effective room size. Ensure the air purifier you purchase has an adequate effective room size.
What is Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR)?
Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is a measure of an air cleaner's delivery of particle-free air. It is calculated from independent laboratory tests. To compare two room air purifiers look at the CADR numbers. CADR is measured across 3 particles; Smoke, Dust and Pollen, which due to their different sizes are filtered at different rates. The combined CADR is the rate for each of the particles added together to provide an accurate picture of the overall effectiveness of the purifier. The higher the CADR, the quicker the air cleaning. It is measured in 'cubic feet of particle-free air per minute'. Because CADR is independently tested it is the most reliable way of comparing two room air purifiers.
How do I work out the size of a room?
The size of a room can be calculated by multiplying the width of the room by the length. For example if the room is 3m wide and 4m long the room size is 12m².
Which Filtrete air purifier is right for me?
It really depends on the size of the room you intend to use your air purifier in. Your air purifier must be able to process the volume of air in the room where it operates. You can see the table below to compare the size of your room to the room size capacities of each of our air purifiers.

Ultra quiet might be a stretch of the truth but on it's lowest setting it's not very loud, and I personally find the low hum quite relaxing when I'm trying to sleep.
I think the lowest setting would be appropriate in most circumstances but I like to run it on high if I am cleaning so that it can take more of the dust which is disturbed out of the air.
The room does feel more fresh when it is running, and with a rating of 10m2 this should be able to cover a few rooms with doors open (unless my house is very small compared to most??!)
The filter relies upon air suction to keep it held firmly to the sides, which means that on the lowest setting there is not much pressure keeping the edges sealed, therefore I have had to use sellotape to seal the edges. At £14.99 the filters are also too highly priced for what they are.
