It's nice to see Lawrence return. As Head of one of the best labels out there; Hamburg's Dial Records, there's always high expectations on every new release. This set is perfect 'sunday afternoon' music; its smooth, mellow but full of Lawrence's usual character and quirks.

It doesn't have the wow factor of some previous Dial releases, such as John Roberts' 'Glass Eights', or that one stand out moment that blows you away, like 'Saturn Strobe' on Pantha Du Prince's 'This Bliss', but its a good album that you can just drift along with. It's hard to pick out highlights at all, it all melts into one luscious soundscape. This is both a strength and weakness, as there's little that sticks in your mind after listens, but you'll find that same sense of satisfaction each time you come back to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lawrence ‎– Films & Windows 18 Mar. 2015

Lawrence returns to Dial for FILMS AND WINDOWS, a step away from the ambient explorations of his previous album, though you wouldn't know it from "The Opening Scene." But "Marlen" quickly returns the listener to house territory, albeit the deep, melodic house that Lawrence is known for. The continual lightness of "In Patagonia" contrasts with the angular breaks of the title track that slowly coalesce into a warm glow. "Etoile du Midi" gets slightly more upbeat, though Lawrence has never been interested in making club bangers. Instead, his compositions are more thoughtful. Even a more straightforward house track like "Lucifer" seems made for home listening, even as "Kurama" descends into a chilly minimalism. "Angels at Night" brings back the meldoic complexity, as does the sparse, whirling "Har Sinai." And after "Creator (Final Call) finds its way into emotive house, "Teenage Barb" ends the album on a dreamy note. This is an album definitely worth watching.
