'Production Design' is by far my favourite title from this interesting series of books on film-craft.
These books are well conceived; superb layout, readable, beautifully illustrated and informative.
This title will be appreciated by all film-buffs, but also, by those interested in set-design.
A book to read and also one to thumb-through and admire the pictures.

Lots of producers waffling on. No real insight as to how to get into the business. They all seemed to be very Lucky. Right place right time. Not a lot about the Craftsmen who build this stuff that dreams are made of.

A must for anyone interested in Production Design, or even film in general - it isn't so heavy as many other books on the subject, but it informative enough to shine a new light on filmmaking.

The book consists of interviews with Production designers and art directors in the business - some of the best. This is why it is so fantastic - there is no muddling between a narrator and someone who has real experience in the field. The interviews are honest, but this only made me want to pursue my dream of working on film production more.

Look out for the page on Sarah Greenwood, who headed the designing of the set for Atonement. It was the inspiration for one of my university dissertations on set design narrative, and very interesting for anyone particularly interested in the use of colour in film. Green is my favourite colour so it was lovely to read about it's rare use in film, as it is perceived to portray awkwardness, anxiety and nausea (see Hitchcock's The Birds).

For anyone who is interested in the part of filmmaking that looks at visuals, making, creativity and atmosphere, as opposed to the stars and red carpet glamour.

The interviews in the book are well selected and cover most of the questions that you might want to ask. Really helps me with my studies of set design.
