'The new edition has kept useful material, whilst updating some case studies and revamping some of the formats to offer itself as more an independent guide for students to use ... with clear explanations of key terms and with a range of examples from relatively recent films that students can use as models to apply to their own experience ... a good introduction for students at this level.' – Media Education Association Newsletter
'When I first flicked through the AS Film Studies book I was amazed on how much there is but the more there is the more you learn so I am extremely happy about that. I was looking for a book that is in good structured layout and easy to understand. I admit at first I didn't read much of it but now I am starting to read a topic every day, this is helping me with my essay c/w and storyboard evaluations. As for all the history in film, I have been reading through in detail and then putting notes down in my own words. I enjoy reading case studies as this helps me to relate to my case study in film studies. Overall a great book to have. I recommend it to anyone. So far my 2 friends in my class have been impressed by the book.' – S. Sultana, Film Studies Student, UK

#1 - The revision guide is meant to be relevant to the exam board, so I would have thought some topics would be specifically related to the case studies on the specification. While there are many case studies, there was not one page on any of the case studies I was studying that was helpful.
#2 - With AS Film studies, 40% of the specification is coursework, which is then divided into a film analysis, a short film/storyboard, and then another analysis. The revision guide does not help at all with this, giving no detail on 'how to make a 'short film' or 'how to analyse a film'.
#3 - The revision guide has a terrible habit of filling the majority of the pages with activities that do not help at all.
#4 - There are literally no definitions or even key words in the revision guide, which are vital to know for the exam. Also, the is little description of anything to actually do with film studies.
I've been very confused from this revision guide, as most of the reviews have started how good this revision guide was them. For me, this revision guide was terrible, as it's sole purpose was to help me with the subject, but didn't help at all and wasted my money. After using a variety of revision guides, from Nelson Thornes to CGP, I found this to be the worst revision guide I've ever used. I'd recommend saving your money and working with your teacher on past papers instead to get help.
As I am currently in my first year of A Levels, I was looking for a nice revision book to read before my upcoming exams (Which are around the corner!!) So I looked into it and stumbled across this. Delivery was excellent (Came within two days) and what a quality product, has everything you need for the WJEC course, Even helps with your coursework. Very good job on publishing this product.
