While this could be read as a S/A, I would highly recommend reading Sighting Silence first.

At its heart this is a second chances love story. It flowed really well and I have to say Fighting Shadows was another fabulous read from Aly Martinez. Yet again, she sucked me in from page 1 and kept me captivated until "The End".

Aly delivered characters that you just can't help routing for. This is another emotionally charged read, but once again laced with humour and witty banter throughout that just gives you that break from the angst.

This series is certainly one I will be be able to re-read and I will now sit back and await Quarry's story that already has me perched on the edge of my seat.

I have to admit that I wasn't certain what to expect from Flint's story but I definitely did not acount for Ash!!!! What could have been a heavy and daunting story was made light and whilst dramatic there was an element of hope that practically leapt from the page!!! I loved it and you will too!!!!

I really loved Fighting silence, I honestly didn't think Aly could top Till and Eliza story but Fighting Shadows blew it out of the water ! Flint and Ash's story was so touching but full of laughs along the way making it one of the best reads this year. Although it doesn't end on a cliff hanger the ending left my crying and needing Quarry's book now !
Those Page boys are under my skin and found a place in my heart , thanks Aly for a great series

How do I even begin to start this review? Aly Martinez has made me speechless (and that never, ever happens). This book was delivered with pure romance perfection and even if I was to conjure up in my imagination what I deemed to be the perfect book to read, I still wouldn't get close to how this novel made me feel. The characters, the plot inspiration, the emotion, the gripping romance - everything about this book from page one to the end made me one happily addicted reader and I'm so glad I finally took the plunge to continue with what will have to be now named as a favourite of mine series.

What's it all about?
Without giving away too much of what to expect (because nobody likes a spoiler). Aly Martinez runs right off the bat from book one in the series, 'Fighting silence' (also a must read if you haven't yet had the chance to read it). We have already been introduced to the hero, Flint Page who finds himself in a life altering scenario, one where he has to battle through to find the man within, throughout these trials he believes his heart is already taken. Sadly it's an unrequited love scenario which leads him to believe that love is not on the cards for his lifetime. Que the entrance of the most original, sassy but vulnerable heroine I've read to date and so begins the journey of Ash Mabie and Flint Page and the obstacles they have to overcome in order to make way for their love to grow.

What did I love?
'Fighting Shadows' is a real page turner. Martinez certainly knows how to keep her audience enthralled in her story telling and because her writing is so original and spell binding you can't help but to always want to stay close to the characters and the unfolding events. Not only is this book additive but it is also comical, tear worthy and especially sweet.

Fighting Shadows is outstanding proof of the calibre of Aly Martinez, because while it has a completely different feel and tone to Fighting Silence the emotional impact is just as impressive, the story grabs and doesn't let go, it's impossible to put down, with a couple who I ended up enjoying as much as Till and Eliza - even though I was convinced when starting, as I’m sure many will be, that due to a certain crush Flint was not going to be a favourite even after his selfless sacrifice.

Flint, when we meet him again, is in a dark emotional place, facing huge physical challenges. Starting each day with hurt, anger and guilt swirling constantly within him he is a bear with a sore head, a total a$$hole! Having been shown no love or stability by a mom throughout his childhood he has feelings for Eliza that he misinterprets - while we saw this in Fighting Silence, Fighting Shadows explores the depth and strength of this crush that is so strong it drives a wedge between Till, Eliza and Flint as well as causing him to be a bystander to life, not an active participant.

When the Page boys mom turns up looking to cause trouble she has a new husband in tow and his daughter, Ash.
Ash is a smart sassy street wise pickpocket who has an old soul and a joie de vie with a dash of crazy that is endearing and captivating. The relationship and interactions between Flint and Ash will have you feeling a mix of emotions and at times wanting to throw the kindle (usually at Flint!) while screaming WTF? But while their journey is a rocky one it is compelling, so prepare your food and drink, carve out the time needed, because once you start Shadows you won't put it down until you've devoured the book whole, it’s just that good.....
