I really loved Fighting silence, I honestly didn't think Aly could top Till and Eliza story but Fighting Shadows blew it out of the water ! Flint and Ash's story was so touching but full of laughs along the way making it one of the best reads this year. Although it doesn't end on a cliff hanger the ending left my crying and needing Quarry's book now !
Those Page boys are under my skin and found a place in my heart , thanks Aly for a great series

How do I even begin to start this review? Aly Martinez has made me speechless (and that never, ever happens). This book was delivered with pure romance perfection and even if I was to conjure up in my imagination what I deemed to be the perfect book to read, I still wouldn't get close to how this novel made me feel. The characters, the plot inspiration, the emotion, the gripping romance - everything about this book from page one to the end made me one happily addicted reader and I'm so glad I finally took the plunge to continue with what will have to be now named as a favourite of mine series.

What's it all about?
Without giving away too much of what to expect (because nobody likes a spoiler). Aly Martinez runs right off the bat from book one in the series, 'Fighting silence' (also a must read if you haven't yet had the chance to read it). We have already been introduced to the hero, Flint Page who finds himself in a life altering scenario, one where he has to battle through to find the man within, throughout these trials he believes his heart is already taken. Sadly it's an unrequited love scenario which leads him to believe that love is not on the cards for his lifetime. Que the entrance of the most original, sassy but vulnerable heroine I've read to date and so begins the journey of Ash Mabie and Flint Page and the obstacles they have to overcome in order to make way for their love to grow.

What did I love?
'Fighting Shadows' is a real page turner. Martinez certainly knows how to keep her audience enthralled in her story telling and because her writing is so original and spell binding you can't help but to always want to stay close to the characters and the unfolding events. Not only is this book additive but it is also comical, tear worthy and especially sweet.

Fighting Shadows is book 2 in the On The Ropes series by Aly Martinez. I've become an addict to her work after back to back reading her Wrecked and Ruined series and then Fighting Silence, I couldn't wait to read this one and read the whole book in one sitting!!

This latest book is about Flint Page, the academic and gifted fighter of the 3 Page brothers, his life forever changed one evening when using his body as a shield for his brother Till's wife. Flint loves Eliza, she happened to be the woman of his dreams that he wanted all for himself. In protecting her his hopes, dreams and future was now to be determined from the confines of a wheelchair and not ringside as planned.

Flint tries to not only make a new life for himself from his wheelchair as well as figure out how to deal with the feelings he has for Eliza Page. She sees him as a son but Flint's feelings run so much deeper: he's conflicted with anger, jealousy, pain and loss for what's tragically happened to him. He cares for his brother Till, but envies him too. To Flint his brother has everything and he has nothing: he doesn't begrudge his brother that but just doesn't want anyone's pity. He's an angry young man at the world, his family and life.

One day an unexpected person: Ash Mabie, falls into his life. Her father is married to his and little brother Quarry's mum and turns Flint life on its head. She's his opposite and has a past that's as tragic, desperate, dark and twisted as Flint's own. She brings light and laughter into his world where it's been gone for so long, but the truth of "you don't know what you've got till its gone" resonates so true for this book.

Without spoiling your reading this is a book about second chances and discovering who you want to be.

Oh my lord these Page boys will melt you on the spot!!!
We were served up the fabulous Till in Fighting Silence, a man that I swooned over – yes positively swooned … it is unheard of! But just when I thought I could safely dip my toe back into the pond that is Aly Martinez magnificence and not end up a complete basket case, she has me shaking in my shoes – honestly Flint Page has broken my soul.
That is not to say that I still don’t love Till, I do I just damn well adore Flint.
This guy has an inner strength that defies anything I could ever comprehend.
He has fought tooth and nail his entire life for every single thing that he has ever needed, wanted or desired and his battles have him shrouded in both anger and mystery. But they also have him steeped in a whole bucket load of honest!
Life isn’t a bed of roses, never has been it is true, gritty and harsh but it is what it is and it has made Flint who he is, an honest man with a fight to be him every single day that he lifts his head from the pillow. A battle to be the guy that he has always wanted to be and a fight to have the world see the man that lies within not the man they see at first glance.
Flint is not an easy character to empathise with initially, I could sympathise completely but I found the way he handled himself just so self-destructive.
