Once again Em has sucked me in, grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. This story is action packed and full of heat(pun not intended).
Syd is the widow of a smoke jumper and she is also a bad ass fire fighter herself. One day she finds herself in the right place wrong time scenario and finds herself in the middle of a forest fire. Enter the smoke jumpers and her late husbands old team. Maddox is the one who finds Syd and sparks not only fly in the forest but between them too. Whilst Syd embraces the emotions she is experiencing Maddox doesn't as he can't get past the guilt that he is betraying his late friend and he tries to ignore the situation and tries his best not to get involved.
I loved the fact that Syd wasn't a weak willed woman but in fact a strong individual who is sure of herself as a woman as well as sure in what she wants and that's Maddox and a career as a smoke jumper and she has the strength and determlnation to go after both.
There was a few questions in this story that some women today will be asking and that is when do you stop mourning and get on with life and I think Em addressed this perfectly.
Will Maddox be able to let go of his guilt. Will Syd become a smoke jumper.
The scenes felt real and had me gripped. The story had me hooked and I kept hoping that after every page I turned I would get the answers I wanted. I loved the other smoke jumpers and I can' wait to read their stories.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

The first book in a new series, Where There’s Smoke which is about a bunch of hot smokejumpers. This one is Maddox and Sydney’s story.
Maddox and his crew are called to a wildfire and it is in the vicinity of Rob, his now deceased friend’s cabin. Thinking the cabin will be locked up and abandoned he is shocked to find Sydney, Rob’s widow there.

Sydney is at the cabin setting it up for sale when the wildfire starts, being left abandoned she is relieved when her husband’s old crew turn up to save the day. Seeing Maddox again though has her feeling things she has never felt before about him. Being an ex-firefighter herself, she insists she stays to help the mission. This brings her and Maddox in close proximity and for these unknown feelings to be worked out.

I liked Maddox with him being the more serious and deep of the smoke jumpers. But he did get a little whiney when he kept pushing back from Sydney seeing as she was Rob’s widow when on the other hand Sydney was happy to let things progress. Sydney was a strong woman though and made her feelings clear and when these two got together it was hot.

This was a very erotic read that takes place amongst the firefighting fields of the wild fires. I would have preferred if some of the action took place back at camp or the city to see another perspective of the budding romance.

Overall though this was a quick hot read and I would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildfire in more ways than one! 20 Jan. 2017

Sydney is ready to move on, selling their getaway cabin was the next step in the grieving process for her. What she didn't expect was for the real estate agent she came up to the cabin with to desert her in the path of a wildfire.

When the call comes in Maddox's team is on route in a couple of minutes. This fire is personal, Rob and Sydney's cabin is in this fire's path. Before Rob died they had all spent time there relaxing and enjoying the company.

What Maddox didn't expect was to find Sydney in the cabin, with no transportation out. After telling her to stay put he joins the others in fighting the fire.

Of course, Sydney isn't going to stay put. She is a firefighter in her own right and she wasn't going to stay idle when she could help.

Sydney gets some real tough on the job training as she works with the smokejumpers to kill this fire. But there's more heating up than the fire. Maddox has decided she's his, sort of and the sparks really fly.

Lots of hold your breath moments with lots of sizzling sex and of course there is some grumbling from Maddox when Sydney decides that she will become one of the team.

Sydney goes up to the cabin she had with her husband with intentions of getting it ready to sale. When she realizes there is a fire, she chooses to stay while the realitor leaves. Maddox and his crew of smoke jumpers are dropped in to try and stop the fire and save the cabin of their fallen buddy's. Maddox finds Sydney there. She refuses to leave and fight the fire with them. In the mean time, sparks fly with her and Maddox. He has fought his feelings for her forever and she is ready to start new. When things get really heated, he pulls away. Can he open his eyes and fight for her before he loses her?
