We find Chance Logan as a teenager living at home with his twin Chase, his mother and violent drunk of a father,he finds his mother in the bathtub after she commits suicide. Forward 14 years and he's in training for the boxing match of his life, with women throwing themselves at his feet but Chance has a rule, one and done,he’ll give them one night and he moves on,strictly no repeats, until Iris catches his attention,he doesn't know what it is about her but he can't get her out of his head and no other woman will do until he has her. So he chases her relentlessly hoping to clear the head space she's taken up,but not all is as it seems with Iris, will she be the one to break him??
Iris Malone is Working as a waitress is a bar, she's raising her niece Alice after the loss of both her parents and her sister. Iris didn't pick this town or this pub randomly she has a mission to take down Chance Logan, but when she starts to have feelings for him she gets worried that he’ll end up taking her down. Throwing her plans in the air Iris falls in love but she knows she has to tell Chance everything but struggles to do so,until tragedy hits and the truth comes out.
This book was wonderfully written once I started reading it I couldn't put it down,I loved the chemistry between both the main characters.
I met him together with his twin brother, Chase, at the start of the series in Chasing Rainbows. The saying “just like old friends” does not apply to this reunion as I hated the twins after what they had done to Adie when they were younger.
I wasn’t prepared to forgive and forget that easily.
But it seemed the years had changed the boys just like everyone else in the series. Yes, they still think they are God’s gift to women and took advantage of that as much as they could. Oh I was really prepared to hate them again second time around.
But Iris came into the picture.
Through her, albeit directly or not, I saw the boys I loved to hate through different eyes and realised that they are now men who had been through a lot and became who they are because of the card life had dealt them with.
Just like the rest of Linda Oaks’ books, this story has heart and was brimming with heat. The attraction between the main characters was undeniable from the start. Had I been reading a physical book, I'm quite sure the pages would have caught flames during those scenes between Chance and Iris.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters who helped shaped the story. Alice is just a darling. Just ask Chance!
However, I would have liked to have seen more of Chance’s “boxing” side. It might have given the story a different edge and possibly explored Chase’s humanity seeing his beloved brother in that light. There were also a few editing errors throughout but not enough to stop me from enjoying the book.
I heard this was the last of the series and it definitely ended on a high. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from this author in future.
Iris comes across as this timid mouse but underneath that she's feisty just needs to let go of the guilt and the pain of the past. Iris has had a lot of hurt in her life but she keeps going for Alice even though sometimes I think she finds everything to overwhelming as she finds it hard to let go and have fun. When she meets chance she does everything she can to stay away from him or avoid his advances even though she's harboring strong feelings that she want to act she can't with the secrets she keeping she can't afford to go off track but chance is persistent and finally get his way but what happens when the secrets come to light.
Wow I really enjoyed this read absolutely feel in love with the story line and the characters totally recommend fighting for a chance you won't be disappointed.

I've been waiting for more of the Logan brothers since Chasing Rainbows.
Chance Logan keeps me on the edge of my seat. I love him then I want to kick him in his shin. I laugh at his boldness then I'm torn up by his past. And Iris F***ing Malone. I instantly loved Iris. She's stronger than she realizes and has an incredible heart. <3 Chance didn't know what hit him.
I loved getting to know these characters. Linda Oaks fills her stories with a cast of loveable characters from Candy, the best friend, to Mick, the gruff and kind owner behind The Drunken Star (That's a great name for a bar.) It was a warm, touching read with a twist at the end that caught me by surprise.
Can't wait for more
When the boys were younger, early teens their mother committed suicide after many years of physical abuse by their father. Chance was the one who found her in the bathroom after busting in the door. It affected them both caused emotional scars. Their wonderful father left them with physical scars both before and after their mother died.
Iris is a young woman trying to figure life out and just get by. She works in a bar at night with her best friend Candy while taking care of Alice, a spunky 9-year-old. She doesn’t have enough money but is doing the best she can after both of her parents died and her sister in a rehab facility in a vegetative state. Once night while working at the bar she meets Chance and he decides then he must have her.
Chance doesn’t do relationships and Iris doesn’t have time to deal with yet another complication in her life, but that does not stop him from trying to get her from under his skin and though she keeps fighting it, she just can’t stay away from him. She is a moth to his flame.
Chance’s twin brother and Iris’s best friend Candy are great and I loved them! I also loved the owner of the bar Max and his protectiveness of the girls. I would love to see these characters again, maybe in Alice’s story after she grows up.
Chance is your normal player. He gets knocked off his feet by a beautiful woman and fought against himself because he didn’t want to be tied down. Yet he couldn’t resist as his feelings grew stronger. Iris has some secrets that has her fighting against what she wants, Chance. She is set on revenge yet her heart is wanting the bad boy. Iris is not afraid of hard work and will protect her loved ones with everything she has. Although cautious, Iris still wants what all women want – a great guy that will cherish her and protect her with everything they have. Does love when out or will Chance and Iris give up on what their hearts are pulling for?
I had a hard time staying focused on the book yet I couldn’t put the book down. I needed to know what was going to happen with Chance and Iris. There was a past that Iris kept hinting at yet you don’t find out what till closer to the end of the book. You can almost guess but you don’t expect it all. I thought there was a nice twist at the end of the book with Iris.
I thought the author did a great job of setting the story and creating a unique reading experience. I didn’t feel that I was reading another book with just different names and places. The book was one of a kind with your happily ever after ending that we come to expect. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a unique romance story with a few twist and surprises.
Iris had met Candy near the shelter where she was staying with Alice. She landed Iris a job and was currently allowing Alice and Iris to crash at her apartment. Iris was happy to not have have to stay at the shelter or in her car, which Iris and Alice had done while traveling to get into town saving what little money they had for food and gas. They were basically living off Candy’s charity. Iris felt like she was failing Alice. She deserved better. Alice was the only family Iris had left.
“It was getting harder and harder to resist him. Sometimes, I wondered why I even tried. Then I’d remember what had brought me here to Rochester in the first place….The thought of what I’d almost done left a sour taste in my mouth. That stupid plan. I should just explain to Chance who I really was and why I’d come here. But then I’d risk losing him, not that he was really even mine, was he? Were we only a distraction for him until someone better came along? Chance wasn’t mine, but the more time I spent in his presence, I found myself wishing things were different. Was it possible that a man like Chance Logan could ever belong to anyone else other than himself? Life was so complicated at times.”
Iris had been living a lie. She was afraid once she came clean about why she came to town with Alice she'd lose everyone she started to get close to. Was it too late to reveal her secret? Would she be forgiven? Would she finally get the answers she was looking for?
