The book is very 70's (74) but has Leonard's usual pace and the surprise is that this tense business man is no patsy and when targetted for blackmail works out his escape and revenge. It's a pacy page turner. I have always been a fan of Elmore Leonard but found this to have a more than usually misogynistic view of women - represented by whores, a mistress on the make and a madonna wife, who is raped under the influence of heroin but is expected to be bounce back once rescued by her husband. The organised labour story is also very dated so that the novel, though enjoyable, isn't one of his classics.
