Product Description

Review

Well-written and relevant to today s music scene, young and old fans alike will enjoy Dillon's collection as the band commences its 50th Anniversary Tour this summer. --Publishers Weekly

Best of all, 50 Sides of the Beach Boys does what all great rock books do: it makes you dive back into your collection to re-examine songs you haven t thought about in decades. --Montreal Gazatte

In effect, Dillon joins the reader to the Beach Boys family, extended over 50 years and as many tunes, many of them unexpected choices that will send you back to your iDevice. They might even persuade you to fire up your turntable. --Christian Science Monitor

This book is certainly a fresh look at the Beach Boys story, and a really good read. The idea of taking fifty different songs (including some solo tracks by Brian and Dennis Wilson) and having a different angle to each one certainly works. Each track has comments by The Beach Boys themselves, famous fans, collaborators and fellow musicians. The songs chosen are diverse and in some instances downright quirky (ie "Im Bugged At My Old Man"!). There are a lot of interesting facts and information about the whole of The Beach Boys career. Author Mark Dillon has an engaging style and he keeps you entertained throughout. A book that should please all Beach Boys fans.

Marc's take on 50 classic Beach Boys songs certainly hits the spot. Each of the 50 tracks highlighted is discussed with both an historical context by the author, and a personal insight by someone who was close to the track at the time of recording, or who has been particularly influenced by it subsequently. Easy to read, informative and fresh.....even if you have every other book on the BBs,there is much to enjoy here...buy it and have fun, fun, fun

Somewhat different approach to providing a mix of biography, history and recording facts. It would require a whole encyclopaedia to cover all their tracks.
