I have read this book cover to cover in 2 days, I couldn’t put it down. What a story. Having been involved in counter terrorism and as a former ATO, I can vouch that this novel is technically correct throughout, except the science fiction aspects which are beyond my experience. The storyline flows as the reader is brought into the world of EOD and the shady aspects of intelligence work. The author has bridged the line of writing a technical novel that brings the reader, even with no previous knowledge of the subject matter, into the story. The way that he writes demonstrates his understanding of EOD Techs, the world over, and when this is coupled with his intimate knowledge of counter terrorism I have no doubt that this will quickly become a best seller.
The ever more sophisticated worlds of terrorism and explosives are brought terrifyingly alive to the reader. Andy Oppenheimer is an acknowledged expert in the field who has the knack of paying homage to the bravery of those who have to counter such atrocities, whilst at the same time introducing us to an unlikely hero whose exploits, humour and fantasies carry the reader on a page turning odyssey towards big bangs and stars galore .
This is a great story – some intriguing surprises, great pace, and excellent dialogue that lets the reader grasp the story, the prime characters, and the baddies among an array of superpowers, bombs, bullets, and nasty terrorists – a gem of a read. The special bomb disposal powers is a great hook for the reader as are the special visions and the excellent antagonists that create that suspense and a really good story arc. Andy knows his bombs and his bullets and has taken that knowledge into an arena of fiction that is quite unique, involving terrorism, bomb disposal experts, and a set of antagonists that had a masterful plot of deceit & devastation. Great debut!
