Product Description

Review

"Wright Morris seems to me the most important novelist of the American middle generation. Through a large body of work -which, unaccountably, has yet to receive the wide attention it deserves--Mr. Morris has adhered to standards which we have come to identify as those of the most serious literary art. His novel "The Field of Vision" brilliantly climaxes his most richly creative period. It is a work of permanent significance and relevance to those who cannot be content with less than a full effort to cope with the symbolic possibilities of the human condition at the present time."--John W. Aldridge

About the Author

Format: Paperback
Long regarded as one of the most gifted American writers, WRIGHT MORRIS was the author of over thirty-three award-winning books, among them the National Book Award in 1956 for his novel A Field of Vision.
He is always a formidable technician, able to bring past and present together in a single moment of time, and a writer in whom the bizarre, the pathetic and the comic exist cheek by jowl.
No other American novelist has approached him in the rich variety of his raw materials and in the ability to keep them raw enough to seem real while they are being handled with an art as sophisticated as that of Henry James.
He is a writer of truly astonishing beauty and power....Not to know Wright Morris is not to know the silent, often lovely, stretches of ourselves. In these trackless, silent landscapes of the mind, we could have no better guide than Wright Morris. He may be the only guide we have.

I read this book about 30 years ago and rated it highly then. I causes me less excitement now, but I still think he is a good writer.
