Review

Veloce continues to release its handy pocket guide in profusion. As always, they are written by marque experts, packed with colour photos, full of buying-oriented info and cost a tenner each. - Octane

Packed with buying tips, areas to look out for and restoration information, the books with Veloce's Buyer's Guide series make a great first step in the purchase of a classic car. - New Zealand Classic Car

It's a tried and trusted format, covering common faults, model variations and the state of their particular market. Before you even think of buying the car, it's worth investing a tenner in one of these little books. You need to know what you're getting into." - Classic Cars

If you are new to the classic car game, then this book would be quite useful. It's not a masterpiece of design and layout, but then it doesn't really need to be. - Auto Italia

Super starting points for potential owners - Classic & Sports Car

... this is a great book, even if you decide that the real McCoy is not for you, and you would rather plump for a New 500 with all the toys, you will not have wasted your money. Enjoy the read and happy hunting. - Fiat Club Africa

It is the essential guide to purchasing a baby FIAT, identifying what to look for in order to acquire the right car at the right price. - Fleet Car

Many of us are guilty of buying with our hearts and not our heads - I know I am. Looking back, I wish I had studied a Buyer's Guide, as it would have saved me many hours of work and valuable dollars. --Australian Classic Car

I bought this book for my sister who is trying to maintain her 500 which 40 years old. It is a very useful book giving tips on how to spot problems underneath the car and the bodywork. One piece of advice which surprised me was that no matter how bad the car looks don't be put off buying it, these cars are now very rare and finding one in any condition is pretty amazing. If you have own or intend to buy one of these little Italian cars then I suggest you buy this book you will need it!

HASH(0x93ce075c) out of 5 stars Beware the tiny photos... otherwise a good book. 9 May 2015

Apparently this book is one of a series of Buyer's Guides from the UK and exhibits some quirks that I presume are common to all. First, it is small in size, 5-1/2"x8", 64 pages. It's chock full of pictures but many are SMALL, as in 1"x3/4". That's postage stamp size! Values are expressed as orange balls, which if you spot the explanation says one orange ball equals one pound... why not just put pounds in the text? There is also one incomprehensible chart on page 12 showing models and a percentage figure: 600D 80%, Multipla 600 100%, 126 40% and so on. I have no idea what this is supposed to represent!

On the good side, despite the small size of the images there are a lot of them. Some photos are from old ads, but most are of contemporary examples showing various features and trouble spots. In some cases the author warns you that rust in certain areas cannot be resolved by buying a new body part because none are available.

Overall I found this book interesting. We don't see many of these here in the USA outside of museums and it's neat to see them running around in the wild being used for everyday transportation.
HASH(0x92da5750) out of 5 stars Useful information but kind of thin 7 April 2014

Not much out there for these old cars. The book has some statistics and VIN information, which was worth the price of admission right there. I wanted more information about the differences in years and trim but since it covers several other Fiat models and isn't very big, the info. wasn't there.

Was a good little book, but still did not answer if some 500D's had front opening doors which is what I was researching.
