It has been a real delight to write an updated edition of this, my first book. I'm sure that many other admirers of this wonderful singer will enjoy reading it - and I send them all my good wishes.

When I came across the first edition of this book in my local library several years ago, I had just been bitten by the "KF bug". This book became my trusty guide through the complications of the recordings and provided more details about the recording sessions and musical background than were available in the biographies. Since the book first appeared, more recordings have turned up, and in the last couple of years there has been quite a flood of new cds on the market, so this up-to-date version is most welcome.
This 2nd edtion retains what I liked most about the first - lots of fascinating details presented in a very clear and user-friendly way - but with even more of it. Some of the photos from the original are not as large and clear as in the first edition, but there are more of them and they're incorporated into the text, so I think on balance that's an improvement. The text also gives more details. For example, there are now descriptions of the recording venues (like the Kingsway Hall and the old Decca studios). As someone living outside the UK, this sort of information is particularly welcome. I also enjoyed delving into the shady world of the "pirate" recordings.
The book would probably be most interesting for those who are already familiar with the well-known KF recordings and want to delve deeper. But I would recommend it for any admirer of KF's music.

A remarkable book about a remarkable lady who never had any 'airs and graces' like some prima donnas!!Sadly she died whilst at the height of her career. One can only imagine what she would have achieved had she lived another 20 years. The book traces practically every piece of music recorded either by one of the big companies or privately-again a superb achievement by the author.
I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. One only hopes that more private recordings will be discovered as time goes on.
