The Fender Mustang I is a 20W guitar combo, or amplifier, bundled with "Amp Modelling Effects" and a USB Interface. The little brother to the Mustang II,the Mustang I is aimed at beginner guitarists. This high-performance machine contains highly accurate amp modeling, a stellar collection of effects courtesy of an all-new DSP platform, and many “hidden†capabilities, yet the Mustang I is easy to use right out of the box! The visually striking design treatment looks all new, yet evocative of classic Fender styling, and with loud, lightweight power amp designs and muscular speakers and cabinetry, they sound as good as they look.
MUSTANG I is a 20-Watt closed-back combo with an 8 inch Special Design speaker. It is factory loaded with 24 presets built from 8 amp models and 24 effects, with tones from vintage Fender to modern Metal. The number of amp models can be increased with the use of a computer, and the amp can be completely reconfigured by the user. TheMUSTANG I guitar amplifier evenincludes USB connectivity for high-quality, low latency audio output, and to engage the Fender FUSE software application for PC and Mac. This opens up a world of possibilities, including on-screen parameter control, deep editing, “hidden†effects, unlimited preset storage, online preset swapping with the Fender FUSE community, and free Fender artist presets.
The Fender MUSTANG I guitar amplifier even includes recording and modeling software packages from Ableton and IK Multimedia at no extra charge. The MUSTANG Icombo amp delivers great sound; the pos

Firstly I am in the UK and ordered this from Musicarte Strumenti Musicali based in Italy. It arrived with 2 days of ordering, very well packed and totally unmarked. The parcel was tracked accurately at each stage and I was fully aware of its location throughout. Therefore full marks to Musicarte Strumenti Musicali for a first class service.
Secondly, I wanted a good practice amp and the Mustang came highly recommended from both review sites and other guitar players out there. First impressions are that for the price this is the best amp on the market. Its feature rich with good sound quality and is loud enough for a larger room or small studio. It may even be loud enough for a small venue.
The free software downloaded from Fender allows even more functionality to be applied to the amp and the USB cable to do this is provided in the box.
Therefore no complaints from me and if your looking for a quality practice amp then look no further and buying from Musicarte Strumenti Musicali is recommended.
UPDATE: I have been so impressed with the Mustang (V2) amp that I sold my 30W Tube amp, bought the 100W Fender Mustang lll (V2) and had 100 pounds left over. I still have the little amp but use it less as the Mustang lll (V2) is easy to edit without a computer - check them out!
If you're into straight metal it's great, and the 4 Fender amp models are authentic, but most of the patches need tweaking to sound good.
I don't see it as good for beginners - it's too complicated, and the on-line editing software needs a certain amount of computer literacy, as well as a knowledge of guitar effects.
What I really don't like about it is the effects section on the amp - there's too much repetition of what is essentially the same effect, and no control over the degree - they're basically on or off and of course they're pretty over the top and so they tend to swamp the sound even when you want to be subtle.
I was particularly disappointed with the pitch shifting - I wanted 'octave up' but it's not selectable, and I don't like the two they've chosen to include.
It doesn't take pedals well, and I also think they should have included a drum machine, so it has it's uses and I'm keeping it for what it's good at, but it doesn't do everything so it's not the only practice amp I need.
Despite having seen demonstrations on Youtube, I had no idea what a diverse range of modelling sounds, tones and effects I'd be able to achieve, nor how easy it would be to switch between them. Inevitably you'll find that some of the 24 presets are offensive to your musical tastebuds, but you can download the exact sounds you want from the Fuse website in seconds and replace them with sounds and named band/artist settings of your choice (I've stocked up on Hendrix, Rolling Stones, classic retro rock n roll, blues and jazz. It would cost a fortune and an eternity of research to do this with separate effects units! The Fuse website includes both Fender's own designs and user uploads which people have rated. There are great search and filter features and several passionate uploaders have their own Youtube channels to demo their effects (see "Intheblues" channel). In addition to reversing setting changes with a simple factory reset, you can easily save the original presets to your PC in order to restore them one by one if you wish (lists available online). Similarly you can create your own bespoke sounds and upload them for others to share.
The biggest selling point for me is exactly what some people are criticising: you can have 24 of your favourite sounds saved and ready to use at the turn of a dial and switch between them instantly with no more faffing.Read more ›
