I'm writing this review because during my search for a laptop stand/riser none of the manufacturers' details, or user reviews gave me what I really needed: how much does it raise the laptop by? In the end, I took a guess that this looked closer to my needs than any of the others I could find, regardless of price.

So... Using the two sets of height adjusting feet (each of which gives an additional 1.5 cm of height), the front edge of my PC (a Sony Vaio VGN-SR59XG) is raised about 7.5cm off the desk. The angle of the platform is around 45 degrees so that the lower edge (hinge) of the screen is 22cm off the desk. The bottom edge of the viewable screen is 24.5 cm off the desk. It also means that with the lid fully open, the laptop screen is vertical and sits perfectly alongside the flat-screen monitor on my desk so that I can extend the Windows desktop seamlessly across both screens which was my original reason for searching out a stand in the first place. I'm a happy bunny.

Overall, the construction is pretty sound; a single piece of moulded black plastic with the platform and front pocket made from another sinlge piece of clear plastic. It looks good without being "wow". As another reviewer said, I wouldn't really consider using it without at least one set of rubber feet as that would place the sharp plastic edges on your desk surface.

I hope this helps.

I got one of these for a 15" MacBook Pro and haven't regretted it. It looks good, the desktop footprint is small, I find the height spot on and the built in USB hub is very handy. It also feels very sturdy and stable, which is reassuring if your laptop is expensive.

It's lucky I find the height agreeable because it is hardly adjustable. You get two sets of rubber feet that each add about 1cm to the height of your screen. But the option of using the lowest adjustment doesn't appeal since it leaves the hard plastic of the riser itself in contact with your desk, with all the sliding and noisy possibilities that entails. So if, like me, you always keep at least one set of feet in place you're left with 1cm of height adjustment, which is hardly worth mentioning.

Other drawbacks include the fact that the Fellowes riser appears to have been designed with brick-like 80's laptops in mind, since the gap between the transparent front cover and the back section on which the laptop rests is 4cm deep! Don't forget that your laptop is open when on the riser, so this leaves a yawning gap (about 3cm in my case) that the laptop is free to move around in. This is probably the biggest complaint I have about this riser.

Other niggles? Well, though it is nice the have a supplied USB hub, it would have been better to have a powered hub that could support things like portable external hard drives. With the one supplied you should only hope to be able to plug in things like keyboards and mice before it overloads. But that is probably what it is there for, making unplugging your laptop more painless at the end of the day, but it does limit your options.

I'm also undecided about the front "pocket".

This is my first riser that I bought. I have bought it because I am a programmer so I use the laptop for 10 hours a day.
The quality of the materials is fine. The riser is sturdy and strong. The only drawback is that is not portable. I you are looking for something that you can take with to the office and back home; you got another package to take. It does not fold.
Another annoying thing is that when I bought it, I thought it rise by tilting the back using levels, but it does not. It uses extra leggings that you adjust to the existing ones to get the required height, and these falls all the time when transporting it.
So bottom line is, If you want something that will stay static at you home this is a good investment. But if you like me, that need to travel to the office this is not the most practical product.

This is quite a big laptop riser and does take up a bit of space, but does exactly what I wanted it for. You really do need to have a separate keyboard and mouse as you cannot use the laptop trackpad when in the riser, and the angle makes it difficult to type. It works for me though as I wanted it for this reason.

This arrived with a long crack in the moulding. In addition the rubber feet didn't fit together very well. The seller immediately offered a refund and I will leave top feedback for them separately. Secondly this riser certainly isn't stable enough for a 17" laptop and I wouldn't trust it with a smaller one either. Thirdly the angle of the keyboard is fixed. As I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 17" which can open out to ca. 135 degrees I couldn't get the screen vertical meaning the riser was unusable in any case for my laptop. You can see that the laptop in the photo is open to maybe 145 degrees. An all round disaster which is going straight to the plastics recycling bin.

As an author, I often spent 10 to 12 hours a day at my keyboard and often get a stiff neck and pains in my shoulders and arms. I am a touch typist but found I was squinting to read the text onscreen. I didn't want to invest in whole new desktop PC system as well as my existing 2 laptops but I had already bought a separate keyboard as this fits on the sliding shelf beneath my home work station and using this is better for my fingers and also prolongs the life of the laptop (laptops don't like having their keys pounded for 12 hours a day). However, the screen on the laptop was set too low and I couldn't get closer to see it better, because the keyboard of the laptop dictates the distance, so I still got neck ache.

Thinking a larger monitor might be the solution, I started pricing up these at Amazon, but then I spotted the laptop riser and this made good sense. The price made it more appealing than having to acquire a monitor. It took around 5 mins to set up. I am 5' 6" tall and need to ensure my knees and elbows are at perfect right angles when I am sitting at my home workstation. Using both sets of rubber feet that came with the riser placed the screen of my 17" Dell studio laptop at the perfect level for me to view the laptop screen as I type. I no longer have neck and shoulder pain. To address some of the complaints of earlier reviewers, I would say:

Strong smell of rubber - they must have resolved this because I have a keen sense of smell and the rubber feet gave off no odour even when waved under my nose.

Scratched desktop - Using the stand without the rubber feet might, I suppose, scratch the desk top, but I fail to understand why anyone would buy this and not use it in the raised position.
