The Fellowes netbook riser is one of those items that I'm not sure you actually need. Assuming you have a netbook because you need a portable computer, then this just adds to the clutter you carry around with you. It does perform it's main function effectively however, in that it will successfully allow you to tilt your netbook up at an angle so that the air can circulate underneath. I'm not sure the fan added much additional assistance - it didn't seem to have much of a cooling effect to me, but as the netbook was on the riser, not on my lap, I suppose it doesnt matter that much! The description does imply that small laptops could also be put on it - I haven't tried it but I would be a bit dubious about whether their additional weight might mean they would slide off the riser.

Overall then - it does what it says on the tin - but I'm not sure many users will actually need one of these.

Having used larger types of riser on my laptop and been very impressed with them I was quite keen on trying this smaller version which is designed to work with netbooks. Although it does angle the netbook pretty well if you can get the netbook to sit in place it wasn't as effective as I had hoped it would be. For a start my netbook just didn't seem to sit properly, and I found myself pushing the riser to one side and managing without it sometimes. Added to that is the fact that the great plus point for a netbook is its portability, and carrying this riser around with it is certainly not going to help with that.

On a more positive note the fan can be moved into a position which suits each netbook, (though its actual cooling effect was minimal at best), and it is pretty solid in construction as it's made from metal. Some forethought has also gone into the USB connection which powers the fan as it is designed to let another USB connector piggyback onto it in case you are short of available connections.
Overall I'm not convinced it's something that I'll use much, but if you think that you will benefit from a netbook riser then you could do worse than to buy this one.

I really cannot say anything positive about this riser. I wanted to use it with my 11 inch laptop - it is advertised as being able to accommodate a laptop up to 13 inches so my laptop was easily in range. However, the computer was still to large for the riser and slipped forward until I used a coaster under the base.

When I did manage to balance my laptop I found the fan to be poor. I would say that the fan is detachable and can be positioned where it best cools the computer. It plugs into the usb port and a nice touch it allows a further usb to be plugged into the fixing so with limited usb ports this fan doesn't use the usb port completely.

Now that would be a brilliant feature if the fan was powerful enough to cool the laptop. I am not sure if mine was faulty but I could hardly feel the cooling effect from the fan. It had no impact on the heat from my computer and though it runs quietly that is no use if the fan doesn't cool your laptop/netbook.

So there it is, wont hold my 11 inch laptop and doesn't cool it either. Would I recommend it to a friend - no. Would I recommend it to an enemy - no he might hit me!!!

I often use my laptop in the bedroom and it gets REALLY hot sat on the bed or my little wooden tray. With this little gizmo holding my laptop in a comfy position, AND with its moveable little fan right under the hotspot, it makes it so much easier - and takes away the worry of overheating. Highly recommended, especially for use in odd places where heat can't always escape.

As anyone who has a laptop knows, they get very hot, especially with processor intensive activity going on. The cheap solution is to put a cushion on your lap to stop burning but this doesn't necessarily cool down the laptop. The Cooler Riser in theory will keep the laptop off you and also allow it to cool down. It looks pretty high tech and it does do the job in terms of mild cooling using the attached fan (with a USB through port so you don't lose one of your USB ports). The drawback for me is that it is not comfortable on your lap and any cooling isn't great. On a table it is ok, especially as it is tilted so typing is slightly easier on the wrist.

So overall it was ok but by no means would I say it is vital. I've gone back to using a cushion. A big shame as I wanted to love it.
