The Powershred P-35C is a cross-cut shredder designed for secure personal use. It effectively shreds up to five sheets of A4 paper per use and cuts each sheet into 4 x 40 mm particles (P-4 security level). The strong steel cutters mean there is no need to remove staples or paperclips prior to shredding and are powerful enough to shred your credit cards. The 12 L easy lift head bin is ideal for easy emptying and holds a high volume of strips while remaining light and compact for trouble-free storage. The P-35C is fitted with a safety lock switch that disables the shredding mechanism when activated to prevent accidental operation and ensure safety for all users.Note: Paper getting jammed under the actuator tends to occur for one of two reasons - (1) the user keeps using the shredder until the bin is absolutely full, at which point it won't take anything else through, then they put it in reverse and reverse paper back up under the actuator (you can't see into the P-35C bin without taking the head off the bin); or (2) the user jamming the shredder (e.g. putting too many sheets in at once), and reversing paper back up under the actuator. The key is the user reversing bits of paper back up from the cutters, and these pieces then getting stuck under the actuator.

Home shredding to protect your identity
The Fellowes P-35C is ideal for the occasional shredding of your bank statements, utility bills and other confidential documents. If left intact, these papers contain personal information that could expose your identity to fraudsters. The P-35C is the right solution to these light-duty home shredding requirements. It shreds A4 sheets into over 400 pieces, making them very difficult to reassemble and read. As a home use shredder, your machine will run non-stop for up to 2 minutes before a 20 minute cool-down duration and accepts up to 5 sheets per feed - giving you adequate capacity for the typical volume of occasional home use. To prevent damage to your shredder, the internal thermal overload protector will sense if your machine is overheating and temporarily deactivate the motors, a red light will indicate that the machine has been overused and you should wait before continuing the job.
Safety features for total peace of mind
In forward mode, the shredding process is activated by an internal sensor that is triggered only when paper is inserted. To further prevent accidental activation, this shredder boasts Fellowes' Safety Lock Mechanism that disables the shredder when switched to the lock position, ensuring that curious hands are kept safe. If too much paper is inserted the P-35C features an electronic reverse mode to remove the excess and clear your machine.
2 minutes run time
The P-35C is activated when the internal sensor detects a feed of paper. Your machine will then run for 2 minutes if continuously fed before it should be left to cool down. This machine is therefore ideal for low volume shredding at home.
Capable of shredding up to 5 sheets per feed, should your P-35C encounter a paper jam then it has an electronic reverse function to rotate the cutters backwards and clear the excess paper.
When switched to the lock position, Safety Lock prevents your P-35C from accidentally being activated by disabling its motors.

I'm giving it 2 stars simply because when it was new and working properly, it was a great shredder. Quiet, and smooth, and shredded pages very well.
If the vertical rib on the bin is damaged at its top, it may not engage with the safety switch on the base of the shredder and it will not work.
I had to buy a replacement shredder before I discovered why it would not work.
The design and build quality appear to be fairly high, with the cutting blades looking strong and sturdy, and a good central handle to lift the top from the bin. Most of the weight is in the top lift off lump and the bin is very light on its own, which makes the whole thing a little top heavy, so I would recommend floor standing, as it seems less prone to being knocked over like that. There are three switches to turn it fully on or off, which seems a little bit over the top, but for home use with children around that might be a good thing. There is a small power on/off switch at the back; a sliding forward and reverse switch, with a central neutral point, at the front; and a small slightly tricky to move safety lock, next to that. The safety lock in particular appears most likely to defeat small children, but I don't have any to test it!
The first time I turned the power on the shredder ran for about 10 seconds, possibly due to a small test paper residue in the mechanism. Then it easily shredded 1 and 2 sheets of 80gsm paper, but by the time I tried 3 sheets at a time is sounded deeper and more strained, so I oiled it with the Fellowes oil I had also bought and continued. It still sounded like hard work shredding 3 sheets, so I stuck with 2 at a time. The cut was narrow strips with a cross cut about 4mm x 50mm, a little larger than the description here, but small enough to be fairly destructive, although not entirely for a very determined person.
After about 20 sheets there was a change in the sound of the shredder even handling 2 sheets. When I lifted the top I found that the shredded paper had piled up in the middle of the bin and was building up to the shredder head which was enough to reduce the ability to pass new sheets through. A quick shake reduced the pile to lower in the bin and the shredder continued as normal, but I think this indicates the strength and suitability of this machine well.
If you need a neat compact quality brand shredder for occasional or light use this is a good machine to consider - if you need something that can properly handle 5-7 sheets at a time and 100 sheets regularly, then don't buy a P-35C, as you need a larger, stronger shredder. Also if you only need home security level shredding then this machine will do the job, but if you want very fine confetti like shreds then a P-35C does not shred documents fine enough. Personally, I like this shredder and it is ideal for my needs, but I think the description does slightly overstate what the machine can really handle.
If you buy any Fellowes shredder then don't forget the oil as it is recommended to use it once for every full bin of shredding. This one seemed to be the best value, 355ml for under £6 Fellowes Shredder Oil 355ml
The unit happily accepted three sheets of paper at a time.
The unit took a rest every two minutes (for approximately thirty minutes) which would have been OK if it had not done that mid-shred. So had to wait for 'nap time' to be over with bits of half shredded receipts flapping out of the top.
I then had the audacity to try and shred a recently expired credit card......The unit then stopped mid-shred and would only work in the reverse function. Switched off the unit and extracted the mangled credit card with tweezers from the top, hoping that it would then return to working order. No such luck; the 'nap' appears to be permanent. Have had the unit twelve days and used three times.
Will be purchasing a new unit and it certainly will not be this brand/ model.
This is going in the skip.
Hope others have a much better experience.
