Yoshimi P is wonderful. It has to be said. Her contributions to modern punk have been huge. And now, she's bringing it all back home by mixing things up with traditional Japanese sounds to create a form of psychedelia comparable only with, in this reviewer's opinion, Acid Mothers Temple, that other Japanese freakout showpiece of guitars and wailing. If you 're looking for warm, summery tunes, you're in the wrong place - this is music to mess with your head. And that can be a very very good thing.

This was a massive dissapointment to me. I took a gamble on this after buying (and loving) ooioo's album from 2000, 'Gold and Green', which was only released in the UK in 2005. Oddly, that older album is far superior to this in every way. Of course, 'Gold and Green' has its moments of whimsy and excessive goofiness - but it also has five or six monster tracks, space-rock you wouldn't be embarrassed to play loud, suffused with endlessly inventive jazz and funk overtones. I assumed that 'Feather Float' would be a step forward, given that it had warranted a release in the West and garnered some positive column inches. On the contrary, it is slight, uninspired and at times tedius. Opener 'Be Sure to Loop' awakens in familiar fashion but the mantra-like repetion of the title quickly starts to grate after the 20th repetition. 'Oizumio' is better, but doesn't quite hit its stride, and the vocal chanting is a little bit lame. 'Ina' is another version of one of the weaker tracks on 'Gold and Green'. '1000 Frods and 3 Sun in a House' spends 10 minutes meandering but not reaching the exciting psych-jams we know them capable of. 'Ring Ring Lee' is nice, swirling, prog, with pleasant vocal touches, but doesn't last for long. Many of the other tracks are too inconsequential to mention. Its all a bit of a shame. However, now that you've read this review you can look up my review of 'Gold and Green' on Amazon and be sure you will get value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ooioo - 'Feather Float' (Birdman) 1 July 2007
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Whoa! This Ooioo CD really caught me off guard. Best described as good 'Japanese experimental'. Tracks here that'll keep this disc in my current rotation stack for awhile are "Be Sure To Loop", "Oi3umio",the total tripping "1000 Frogs And 3 Sun In A House" (gotta just love that song title) and the out-there "Ring Ring Lee". The vocals here may not be that great, but the over-the-top music more than makes up for it. Might appeal to some fans of Boredoms, Altered State and High Rise.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of those albums that might grow on you, and I hope that it does... 27 Jun. 2014

This is one monster of an album and OOIOO is one monster of a band. Of the albums that I've listened to of theirs, this has to be the most accessible by far and even then it will annoy the crap out of most listeners. The albums starts off with "Be Sure to Loop" a track that builds and builds and then sure enough starts to loop for a bit before coming to an understated climax. If that sounds like an asinine opener to you then it's probably not gonna be your type of album.

The rest of the album is hard to describe as it's impossible to put it into a box and categorize as rock or any discernible easy to define genre. It's like most of their albums in that its mostly a collage of different styles and sounds crammed together into a musical experience unlike what you're likely to find anywhere else. What sets this album apart, at least to my ears, is that there's a lot more rock oriented sections and danceable moments included to make it an exceedingly interesting listen. It took me a while to really get into this band and for any potential fans this is a fantastic starting point.

this is a great band from osaka which makes experimental sounds with heavy african drum influences.like most bands from osaka they are original in there music and addicting to listen to.former boredom member makes sense becuase they are heavily influenced by drums although i think she left the band to form abliada.i went to see abliada last time i was in japan but could not find the club which is a problem in japan as the clubs are sometime hidden in alleys and streets that are hard to get to.

5.0 out of 5 stars fascinating blend of early Floyd and Melt Bannana 9 Dec. 2003
By Eric P Leikus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
very interesting CD. Some of the vocals are distracting, but the music is driving modern psychadelia. As I said, think Syd Barrett's Floyd mixed w/ Melt Bannana. I highly recommend.
