Product Description

Review

""Feasting" achieves something that American chefs can't really seem to get the hang of in their cookbooks, but British and Canadian chefs manage to pull off from time to time: this book is fun." --Eater.com

About the Author

Sam Bompas & Harry Parr set up their company, Jellymongers, in 2007 and receive numerous commissions for their bespoke jellies and moulds, as well as constant requests to host unusual food events worldwide. Blurring the boundaries between art and food, they have featured on Heston Blumenthal's Feast programme, hosted a jelly banquet for over 2000 people with jellies designed by leading architects, created a 'walk-in cocktail' installation, a chocolate waterfall, created cocktail 'lakes' for their lucky guests to row across... the list goes on. They have featured on many TV shows, including Martha Stewart's US show, and in the national and international press.

I've followed the adventures of Bompas & Parr on the London scene for a while now - their jelly designs and installations are amazing and the Jelly book they did has some brilliant recipes that aren't difficult to make.
What i love about the new Feasting book is that as a bigger book format and well-produced, it is not only a recipe book for those wanting to create the perfect dinner party but also the perfect coffee table book to have on show at said dinner party. the photography is both surreal and tempting at the same time. I'm just itching to make the doughtnut bacon butty - it looks like the perfect morning-after (brilliant party the night before) pick-me-up!

This is a book to knock your socks off! There are certainly some wild and wacky recipes in here, but there's also some quite simple ones that just happen to make a big impact. I'm pretty sure that any dinner party or full blown feast that you might throw from this book would be the talking point of the year. The photography is stunning and it's a really statuesque book in itself - it feels expensive and luxurious. I think it would make a great gift for the more experimental chef in your life, but at the moment this one is staying firmly with me! I'm going to try out the tropical chicken served up in pineapples for my Christmas party this year - looks like fun...

High on the fun factor, Bompas & Parr's latest offering is all about all out entertaining.

Rather more than a recipe book, this offers advice on exploding wedding cakes, inventive themes and decorations and anecdotes about designing a gin and tonic mist that you can drink through the pores of your skin. As a cook book it has suggestions for some unusual dishes - from Salvador Dali's Bush of Crayfish with Viking Herbs to an Alice themed Mock Turtle Soup. It also has a few less common cocktail suggestions, including both the quick and straightforward (port and tonic) and the somewhat fiendishly involved (an Aleister Crowley concoction).

Not all practical, but entertaining.

How can you quite describe a book that falls open on the suggestion that you should sprinkle 24 carat goldon your quails' eggs? Pippa Middleton it aint. Bompas & Parr have a reputation of being as extreme a couple of cooks/feastmongers as you can get, and this book is the ultimate in their feasting philosophy. It doesn't have to be practical it just has to be magnificent. Amazing photography completements their extraordinary ideas. More of an art book than a cookery book, and a complete feast of a book with it.

This is feasting taken to a whole new level. The focus is on creative and spectacular ideas for parties and also includes recipes and a very enjoyable chapter on feasts throughout history. Some of the more extreme ideas include tabletop fireworks and serving a cigarette course after a meal - yet the book is a great inspiration for any feast, dinner or birthday party. Recipes for Snails En Attelet and Chewing Gum are fascinating to read but nothing that I would attempt myself. But here are also recipes that I'd love to serve such as Smoked Eel, Celeriac Remoulade and Oatcake; Glitter Ham; and Cieftain Pancakes. The photography in the book is amazing and the design and production of high quality.

Quite good, though I was hoping for more visual inspiration for table decoration and entertaining, rather than recipes.
