The main point of the story is that, after 18 years, Beth's kidnapper has been released from prison and is after her again. Apart from knowing his whereabouts here and there, his capture was an anti-climax for me. It felt rushed and I would have liked more drama to unfold at that point, e.g. for Beth to come face to face with Kline, rather than what actually happened.
Again, for me, there were too many sex scenes. Some of them were not necessary. Sadly, I skimmed some of those parts in order to get on with the story.
Even though this is book two, parts of book one were explained again. I didn't feel that necessary; most readers would have been aware of everything after reading Vulnerable.
I found the writing just a little repetitive at times; the odd word/phrase was used several times throughout.
I enjoyed reading this story from Beth's POV in the present tense and how her character developed. I also enjoyed Shane's character and the other subsidiaries. I'm also hoping that Cooper will get his own story. I will definitely read book 3 though because I like Lia's character.
As I mentioned at the start, this has been a tricky review to write. I wanted to sit and read this at every opportunity I had, meaning it maintained my interest most of the time, but I just feel this could have been so much better.
However my criticism is that the author added to much reflection in this second book and whilst it was very good, you actually didn't need to read book 1 because there was just too much reflection. Every memory was written in full to the point where I skimmed pages as I had already read it. If anything the author did herself no favours, because in doing what she did people would have no reason to buy the first book. In previous series of books I've had to go back and re-read the first book, which is a major part of the enjoyment. Sadly you wouldn't need to do this with this book you have ALL the story from the first book in it. Please don't do this again as you are doing a disservice to the people who bought the first book and also yourself.
I would still recommend it however don't bother with the first book you won't need it
Praise to April on another epic book x
The same themes as book 1 flow in this book too- beautiful love, overcoming fears, suspense, friendships and drama. We get to see Shane and Beth building their future together, whilst getting to know the rest of Shane's siblings well (getting us super excited for the next upcoming book, which will be Lia's story).
A fantastic ending for this couple, who I'm sure we'll continue to catch up with in the next book. Definitely a highly recommended series as a whole.
Howard Kline is getting bolder making a move to either abduct or kill Beth. Can Shane and his team get to Kline before he gets to Beth?
I am absolutely loving this series and can't wait again for book 3 Lia's story.
I fell in love wth Beth and Shane their story just kept on getting better. It is full of love, laughter and suspense.
Well written, drawing me in. The story playing out in my mind as if watching it on the big screen.
I cannot recommend this series enough. Can't wait for Lia's story and all the others to come after!
