Where to begin . . . I honestly cannot praise this book enough. Its one of the best books this year and now added to one of my all-time favourites.
We follow the tale of Kami and Blaine. Kami is a troubled chick who has dealt with a tragic childhood and is being haunted into her adult life. Scarring and tainting any relationship she has, stopping her from getting close to anyone around her. I cried for Kami, so many times. I desperately wanted her to find peace and fall safely into Blaine's arms.
Whilst the story is one of tragedy and a tormented soul, its also one of love, courage and raw passion. The journey that ensues to reach the safe place where you feel warmth and hope again. Its a beautiful tragedy and it stole my breath, my tears and still managed to make me drool all over my Kindle . . . my poor Kindle, covered in all my bodily fluids!
The raw, instant, electrifying chemistry between Kami and Blaine is absolutely magnetic and it sucked me in right at the first chapter. The stolen moments they share amongst the busy hustle of the bar, is just amazing. So real and so pure you can feel it seeping from the pages.
That goes without saying Blaine is HOT stuff! You should all know by now, Im a sucker for a tatted, shaggy haired hotty! I cant help myself. I like men, I do, but I even found myself attracted to Kami! What a beautiful, strong, sexy woman. Despite all she has gone through and her constant struggle to deal her pain and fears, she is a badass chick with a huge heart buried beneath all the anguish.Read more ›
The blurb and the first part of this story had me hooked and i couldnt wait to read more, the traumatic life that Kami had lead her secrets and fears really touch me soul deep.
I have to say there did come a time while reading i found the story a little repetitive, the way in which Kami reacted and pushed Blaine away time after time it just fell alittle short for me.
Blaine for me was a dream, he was the true hero of this book. The way he was around Kami the support and love he showed her was beautiful. His letter to Kami towards the end really pulled the emotions out of me for the first time while reading this book, it was heart breaking the lengths he would go to to try and heal Kami.
Angel and Dom were great characters and such a huge support to Kami they had a true friendship.
Towards the middle of this book i found myself getting bored, the story did pick up and i liked the ending.
Kami would never consider herself a survivor, in fact, she considers herself broken and beyond repair. While her room mates Dom and Angel, act out their buried pain and anger, Kami withdraws into a world of her father's making. Hoping to move on, Kami finds herself falling for a man who promises her that he will never let her fall. But Kami's fear of falling has her pushing everyone away. When the people around her get too close, Kami runs without looking back.
Blaine is the man with whom Kami is falling in love. But fearing rejection and a broken heart, Kami will never allow anyone to come close enough that could physically or emotionally destroy the fragile hold she has on her own sanity. Blaine is no ordinary man; he is the man who promises that he will never let her fall and if she does he will be there to catch her. The relationship is slow to build as Blaine understands that Kami must fight her demons but he is willing to fight right along side with her.Read more ›
I found this book really moving, from cover to cover. Full of tragedy, guilt, passion, hatred and love. S.L. Jennings writes a very fragile story with such empathy for both the characters and the current day victims. An awesome read. I would definitely recommend this book and the Author - S.L. Jennings.
